Felix2 is correct.... The onside kick did not hit the ground

Jan 12, 2016, 1:13 AM

And based on the rule it was illegal . You can clearly see it came directly off the tee. They got it wrong tonight. And it hurt us badly, changed the game.

Yes sir...Felix2 is correct. We got screwed. Should have been a dead ball at the spot the Alabama player touched it and belong to Clemson.

For reference NCAA rulebook article 6 section A.

Does NOT have to touch the ground. The USC game incident involved a fair catch. We did not call for a fair catch against Bama, because we had no one anywhere near the ball.

maybe so... but the ruling in the coot game WAS NOT

for a fair catch

I see what you are saying but the article in the rulebook reads otherwise. Fair catch or not.

If you think about it, who knows what would have happened even if we did get the ball on that play. Kinda like people assumed UNC was going to score if they didn't get called for offside. We blew it on 3rd down. Missed a kick. Got three when we needed 7 and missed a boat load of assignments and tackles. If we do those things right, then the onside kick becomes irrelevant.

the officials in the coot game called it right, but explained it wrong. the alabama kick tonight was legal...however, had one of our players thought to call for a fair catch, before the alabama player caught the ball in the air, without it first touching, the ground, it would have been a penalty and we would have gotten possession of the ball at the spot of the foul

Cdfrisch..you keep beating that drum but what is your reference? Article 6 says opportunity to receive the kick. I can't find where it talks about a fair catch. Just trying to figure out where you are getting your info.
