I grew up in a household that listened to Bob Fulton on Saturdays. I followed my dad's ways as he graduated from South Carolina and espoused all things orange. Teenagers are a funny thing and at some point they realize their parents know nothing. The world was at my fingertips and I decided my college of choice was nowhere near home (Lexington, SC) and I did the unthinkable...I took a college visit to Tiger town...The obvious choice for Engineering in the state.
Fast forward to freshman move in - I was determined to not wear orange. Early Saturday morning sometime in August 1993, I was awakened in my honeycomb annex by Tiger rag. The band was walking around campus and it was exciting! A few more home games later and I could not get enough orange...free t shirts were everywhere and knickerbockers had plenty to buy as well. I was hooked and would drive my parents a little crazy with my new found love of all things orange. I loved every minute of it. Maybe a little too much at times as I had to take a break from school after 3 semesters. I was able to return several years later to finish.
I now own mostly orange items, wear orange almost everyday, and thoroughly enjoy all things Clemson. I am extremely proud of my education and my experiences in that amazing place.
My dad, on the other hand, is true to his Alma mater. We have gone back and forth with the rivalry games but he has mostly grumbled when I would celebrate. There may have been some Saturdays he asked we not talk about the games. He is garnet and black through and through...That's why this was pretty special. My dad is an incredible dad and loves me more than his affiliation with any school. I mentioned I'd seen some pretty cool corn hole boards and would love to have some. He's retired and loves his wood shop and my mention of wanting something was all it took. He set out to surprise me with this gift but wanted it to be exactly as I wanted so we were able to work on it together. I'm a tiger, he's a gamecock, but this time the sides were one. I thought they turned out wonderfully. I hope y'all have had the same kind of love from a father as I have and Happy Father's day to you all!
