Fascinating read on how and why FSU fell

Jun 24, 2019, 3:25 PM

apart after winning the Natty. Turns out a lot of commentators on these boards were dead on in their assessments of that situation.

Interesting read but just don't see Florida State getting it corrected in time to save Taggart's job. Kind of like Texas if you ask me. Charlie Strong had to come in and clean up a mess, which he did and got the culture back right but to get it right they will probably need another head coach to get them back to the top or somewhere near the top.

You're probably right. I can see them winning 9 or 10 games in the next 2 years but that isn't going to do it for the FSU faithful. Taggart will have to go.

I could never figure out the Texas mess. They recruited great. I think Mack just got lax on discipline and evaluating kids. THis is why I dont worry a lot about rankings. I trust our coaches since they seem to know who to get and more importantly who not to get

Allow me to explain:

Mack became very lax and lazy the last 2-3 years. He took an extended "victory lap", if you know what I mean. It was pretty bad (the lack of talent/character of players and the lack of conditioning - guys were soft and entitled). He should be ashamed of how he left the program. He's not the first old guy to hang on too long.

Charley Strong was in way over his head. If you look at his track record prior to UT, his sole success was with Teddy Bridgewater at QB. He was an incredible reach, but the program was in such bad shape several other candidates passed and they had to settle for a guy like Strong. He does deserve credit for immediately rooting out the bad apples (even if his manner was a bit too blunt).

Charley Strong stepped into a terrible situation but there was a reason he was their 5th/6th choice. They guy just didn't have the skills to be a CEO/politician, which is what a program like UT requires. The pressure from regents, connected boosters (different groups have different demands) and fans is ridiculous.

I feel dirty saying this, but I'd rather the Aggies under Jimbo succeed than for UT to turn it around.

Maybe people will finally start listening to TNetters.***

Very convenient

For the administration and new coach to blame the coach that left for all of the bad things going on in the program and shame on the author for not pushing back in any way on faults with the current staff.

Was it a bad situation? It certainly appeared to be. But he also apparently knew that when he took the job and he came in in December of 17 so he had a full offseason last year to get it corrected and if the older guys didn’t want to play ball, bench them and play younger ones.

Jimbo didn’t cause them to not be able to complete a forward pass or even get lined up correctly or run plays on time. It wasn’t Jimbo’s fault that Taggart made no adjustments during the season to salvage at least the bowl streak. Sounds more and more like excuse making and not taking even an ounce of ownership over his own failures in addressing the problems.

It can be both you know

I see nothing in that article about Fisher I don't agree with and I thought taggert did a poor job on the football part of his job last season. He will fix the culture because that's what he is good at. His hires for coordinators will determine how good the team is at actually playing football.

They hired the wrong guy and now excuses roll out.

Jun 24, 2019, 5:16 PM

Jimbo for all his faults, wasn't responsible for Ole Winston dressing out, the boosters/AD that told him he'd still play were. Jimbo butted heads with the Bobby Boosters that still thought they called the shots. It wound up with JF getting the F out of town. Willie will shut up and do as he's told to , Jimbo wouldn't.

Interesting article

It wasn’t difficult to see the dysfunction under fisher so I believe what the article says about taggarts job there . He may not survive but it makes jimbo’s nonsense all the more apparent and all the more appropriate for his current conference affiliation

I am not a Sinbo fan, but I doubt all the blame is his. Even the TPD was part of the problem, along with the already mentioned boosters and other characters. Once Sinbo bailed he became the fall guy for all of it (guilty or not).

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!
