What level do you think our offense performs at next year?
Jan 26, 2014, 3:03 PM

The QB situation has been discussed ad nausea but there are more personnel losses as well (Watkins among others).
Can we duplicate the numbers of the past 2 season? Surpass them?
Obviously the offense will have a (hopefully) different look with an improved run game.
I am talking total offense numbers here....what do you expect?

I do not think numbers will be as good as last year, but I think we will try to improve greatly in time of possession. I believe Morris is learning that keeping the other teams offense off the field is more valuable than the quick strike.

I sure agree!!I think our overall record will be the same(maybe better)but without the big OFF numbers.. we will be good enough but not what we were this year.. also our schedule will have us playing teams that are closer to us than this year

that Boyd wasn't the type of QB that Morris wanted running his system, but he was a good passer so Morris threw the ball a lot more. with Kelly, or Watson this offense can be nasty! I think we fall off a bit but not much. I still say we win 10 games

What??? Morris didn't want running QB who could throw well?

Boyd may not have been the ideal candidate, but he had a lot of the basic skills Morris wanted.

Tajh was not capable of running Morris entire system. Morris made his frustration known several times over the past season that he could not open his playbook up.

up his playbook because of Tajh. And considering how good our offense was this past season, that statement would be absurd. If anything held back opening up the playbook it was below average play by the oline.

Morris indeed did state that he couldn't use the entire playbook. Boyd was beyond horrific at the zone read. To the point where CCM couldn't call it. Thats why we went to the QB power run game. Morris had to predetermine the run reads for Boyd.

Your right, he did say that for georgia but find the link of Morris talking after fsu. He did not use his entire playbook this year
Would find a link but don't feel like looking to prove a point that's true

He was still our second rusher 2 years in a row.

The problem for Morris was less Boyd and his capabilities and limitations and more the single dimension of the running game. Ellington one year, and HotRod the next.

and we didn't have depth at the RB position. Although we have a lot of young RB's, they are some very talented young RB's this coming season.

More balanced rush/pass yardage. Still big numbers. Fewer

big yards after pass without Sammy.
I still think we'll have a top 20 team in rush and pass individually. It will just take more pass plays of shorter yardage. A wealth of WR and TE targets make it possible.

This is my line of thinking as well. We may not have the great RAC guy like Watkins, but a dominant run game will give our WRs more 1 on 1 opps down the field, which in turn will lead to big plays.
I think the rush/pass numbers will be close to equal in terms of yardage.

the ball more. The oline should be better. Probably will have higher rushing numbers and slightly lower passing numbers. It will be nice for the coaches on the offensive side of the ball, not to have to depend on passing the ball as we have over the past 3 years. A deeper and better running game can make this offense even more explosive.

I say we have some moments that scare us to death but...

that should be expected with new faces at some key positions.
However...
I say we are a more difficult team to prepare for also because of new faces in key positions.
I say we will be able to develop a stronger run attack since we will have more healthy bodies at that position, also having so many RBs with none set to be the main guy we should see heavy competition from these guys.
I say we will finish 10-2 in the regular season, down side we lose conference to FSY again, and lose to a less than great team this year. (not bad team but an 8 or 9 win team)
Up side to this season will be we beat UGA in Athens, and close the season by beating the chickens. We are back in the Orange Bowl playing TEXAS, Michigan, or ND.
If we can three peat the big bowl win, this 11-2 season will be better than last years because of the win over sc. this would set us up for a crazy 2015. FSU back in the Valley (w/o Winston)and ND as well. (Can you say Final Four?)
Auburn...USC...TEXAS...CLEMSON
Go Tigers!
As far as offensive numbers...4 receivers with 500+ yrds Another 1000 yd RB. Increase rushing ypg by 50+ Offense will benefit from a good defense that gets even better.

I think our offense this year will give DC'S fits to prepare for.I think TE will be big for us especially if the lights come on for Jordan Legette easily the most explosive TE on campus. Would love to see Dye and Gallman get the most carries.Peake should be the game changer everyone thought he's due for a break out .I think we surprise a lot of teams with our power run game.Should be another double digits win season. Especially winning over ussee.

A few things:
Jan 26, 2014, 4:28 PM
|
|
We have more options to be multiple and run the smashmouth spread. We have more talent or as good as Auburn. The scheme is what separates us/auburn from others. Our d is much better than auburns, despite their "sign stealing" or game prep for title game.
Sky is the limit, what needs to happen:
Offensive line must gel...smashmouth spread helps this.
The top QB and RB must emerge in the spring. Losing to uga AND FSU would cost us early, 1-1 and we got a chance.
Plenty of speed/depth to play with, we will have some big rushing games, but less yards passing/yards after catch, simply from keeping the ball on ground and letting our d ball out.

2014 Clemson offense
Jan 26, 2014, 5:44 PM
|
|
IMO...the offense has a chance to be just as good. That's right, just as good. Even with the loss of Sammy and Martavis at receiver. I think this group can be just as good, lead by Peake, Humphries and Williams. You may not have a guy with 80 catches, but I have no doubt the ball should be spread around. Plus the fact, one of the more talented incoming groups at this position is on the way.
Next...what about RB. Sure its some speculation at the moment. But I believe this could be the best group Clemson has had since the days of James Davis and CJ Spiller. (2014) All our backs this year are big and physical and built for a strong running game. That's going help who ever our QB is.
And finally, while many wanna give Stoudt the starting job at QB. Watson and Kelly might be more suited for Morris's offense, even more so than Tajh Boyd. So, if the Tigers can fill a couple holes on the O-line,we'll be fine. And even if they do take a step or 2 back (the offense)- this should be the best DEFENSE Clemson has had in a few years....least I hope so.

and lead us to National Championship! He will be drafted #1 next year. Chad will be drafted # 1 the next year. Then Watson #1! And the Defense will hold teams to their lowest score of the year! Peake and Leggett will be All-Americans also! And Tigers will be known as QB, LB, D.Line, TE, Wide Receiver U. And then we reload for the next year!

most would assume that a drop off is imminent. I don't totally buy that. the offense may look different, favoring the run over the pass but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. we may be more efficient with a dominant ground game. we should be anyways.
