Fallacy of the NFL draft

Apr 30, 2022, 10:11 PM

The higher your team finishes the more players you will have drafted. It is a joke. Best example is Justyn Ross. One of the best receivers available but his team did not show out and he had injury problem. If we finished better and he was healthy he would have gone in the first round. No justice.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

I lost faith after the Watson draft

that these idiots know what they are doing half the time!

He is a good receiver, not a great one - super games against ND and Bammer his freshman year, when you look at his health issues and last 2 years playing time, it's not a stretch to see him go undrafted.

Hurt In 2020 amd a very Average showing last year hurt his stock . He could have been a first round pick had he shown out last year but never happened unfortunately.

Re:Fallacy of the NFL draft / Practice squad = good for 2023

May 1, 2022, 1:49 PM

Injuries are part of life.

When looking at the variety of injuries (in different places) ... some of which may have impaired Ross's otherwise unspectacular speed ... it all equals out to UDF.

But we're all pulling for J.Ross to get himself completely healthy. Let's hope that he can make a practice squad for a full season to both allow him the time to get completely healthy and also to keep his football skills sharp.

The challenge is that if he can't get healthy enough to participate in the NFL preseason camps, then it may be a challenge for him to earn a place on a practice squad. If he can hang with a practice squad for the 2022 season, then I think he'll have a real chance to make a 'full time' NFL roster for 2023.

He's slow (and was at Clemson), lacks break-away moves, and, at least in '21, was plagued by drops. He has a history of injury.

And given your premise, how do you explain the large percentage of players taken from mid-majors and lower level teams.

There are good players all over the country. In most places, there are just a very few good players. At others, a plethora. And haven't it been mentioned over and over on this board that Georgia has amassed an almost criminal number of 5* players? Not a surprise at'all.

A top secret meeting between NFL GMs was held last month in the Wuhan Meat Market; the main item of discussion: the 2022 draft & blackballing Clemson personnel-

Please support with facts

I am asking you to do me a favor and support that comment with facts. Your logic says only WR’s from teams who finished better than Clemson should have been drafted ahead of Justyn.

You think it's possible the higher a team finishes the more likely it is they have more draft worthy players?

I stumble on to a good point now and then.

He would have been a high pick had he been able to enter draft after freshman campaign

Then again, the spinal issue would have most likely been discovered during pre-draft physicals.

Those 2 one-handed catches & that beautiful deep catch vs Bammy

May 1, 2022, 9:28 AM

set him uP as the wonder boy of college football and then it was basically down hill (ironically with injury near our Hill) that did him in..plus a slightly above average last year due to drops, misses & connection with QB.

Still, his is an excellent receiver when everything is clicking and I believe he will eventually get to prove it.

Note: That congenital bone situation, injury to it, being out a year, healing enough to return (probably a 50-50% wise decision) and competing pretty dammn good afterwards would have had most players going thru that same scenario saying No Way Man, count me out!

Thx Justin for your game!

Biased Moron.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That doesn't seem necessarily accurate, though, from data

May 1, 2022, 10:54 AM

Plenty of college winners, even national title winners, have gone undrafted.

College is different. A starting QB with two national titles under his name didn't get drafted, for example.

Learn to let it go as the nature of the draft, rather than suggest it's simply a conspiracy against Clemson and the league, just my thoughts.

After all, Clemson has also sent walk-on players to the league as starters. Take your chances when they come, just like Clemson's leaders teach.

Another example is Mateo Durant of Duke

May 1, 2022, 1:42 PM

Set single season team rushing record behind Duke's O-line and All ACC RB & not taken while many unheard of guys were drafted.
