Fairweathers

Oct 29, 2021, 11:57 AM

What gives? I live in Jacksonville now and it blows my mind how many fans just don’t care after a few losses. Gator and Nole fans can’t even tell me who they play most weeks but were in my face after a close LOSS to Bama.

I’m certainly disappointed this year but I get up for every game no matter what and passionately cheer for my tigers. Is it just here? Do Clemson fans feel the same? Really annoys me how they only claim the good times. Even coots are more loyal

Because the season is shot, aside from the coots game. They are still fans, but the fun is in the winning.

Agreed, but not even watching the games is not a real fan.

True. They are still great to watch. I like watching to see players grow and get better. I am baking on a huge turnaround next season. It's great to still watch win or lose. There is no pressure now either. Just relax and watch. Whatever happens happens.

Maybe....

...but every fan has their pain thresh hold...

Watching Clemson games this year REALLY puts that to test. It's not just a mediocre team. It's dead-last in the schlitty ACC. It's not just losing. It's a complete inability to pass/catch the ball. We literally look like an offense that was pulled from the men's soccer team. It's not a fan issue. Swinney's the one that pushed the BYOG/Best-is-the-standard/Best-is-yet-to-come narrative for years.

One CAN expect a winning fanbase to deal with down years.
One CANNOT expect a winning fan base to try and understand why you've had a complete failure on offense with zero explanation....and injuries don't count as the vast majority came at the helm of a defense that was on the field for 70% of the games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Right about the injuries...

But that won't stop the sunshine pampers from using it as crutch-

I am no pumper, but there is a point about the offensive injuries and missing players last week.

To your point, it has been some time since we have watched an offense this painful to watch. It has been such a train wreck this year. Hoping to get back on track. I honestly think if we can put together a good offensive performance then the confidence will grow and we’ll be much better the rest of the year.

Now overcoming TE’s scheme and play calling that is a different story.

I'm not traveling and spending hundreds of dollars to watch a 120 ranked qb struggle and unranked teams beat us and coaches that keep doing what's not working. I'm a graduate and fan but I'm not stick my head in the sand stupid.

No ones calling anyone stupid. But “fan” is shot for “fanatic” which means up and down no matter what, maybe some people should classify themselves as supporters not fans

I spend that money to enjoy the experience rooting on my beloved Tigers. Not sure why you feel so entitled.

So! Still actually allot to play for. 10-3 is not a bad season. Heck win out and we may even back ourselves into the ACCCG. Could NC State drop 3 and Wake lose 2 with one being to us. You bet they can, but it is a long shot.

I will sit in front of the TV every game unless I am trying to figure out the stupid ACC network games and pull for my Tigers. Although doubtful, I am just still hoping to see the offense somehow breakout and we go gangbusters the rest of the year.

And if I were anywhere near SC I would be going to the game.

Not questioning if we care, just surprised at “SEC country” and the lack of support. Not many die hard gator or nole fans exist the way Clemson fans do

Nobody cares what Gator or Noles fans do or think!

Because this year is totally different. Team acts like they don't give a crap. Does not look like a Dabo team.

Fairweathers aren't actually fans... a true fairweather flits to whomever is winning.

The faithful on the other hand fall into 2 main categories...

First is the "emperor has no clothes" crowd who think that saying anything negative is some how offensive to their sensibilities. This goes right up to the emperor himself, who says his nakedness really is new cloths and that it's the perspective of the truth-tellers that is all wrong.

Second is the truth-tellers and do-gooders crowd who think that giving platitudes to the Emperor isn't clothing the Emperor, nor helping out the general opinion of the entire world who sees the Emperor parade on cable TV proclaiming his new clothes are the greatest thing since his last faux pas. They don't want to hope for the best at all costs... they want to envision a time in the near future where the Emperor has regained his senses and steers the country back to its place of high esteem justifiably.

Re: Fairweathers

Oct 29, 2021, 7:24 PM

There's a third category.

The "I don't take my Zoloft and I don't see very well" group which also has an unmerited high opinion of themselves.

Their vision is not good enough to assess whether or not the "Emperor" has not clothes or whether they remembered to wear their own clothes. But they run around talking about things which they don't understand, and the more they talk, the better they feel about themselves.

They think that 'better coaching' could solve their problem, but really they need to get back on their meds.

Most of the Fairweather fans around here are the fans with Feathers stirring up the crap.
