Fairweather fans...

Sep 27, 2021, 3:14 PM

The unraveling that has occurred in the past few days sad, but I guess not surprising in these times. All of that good will built up over 10 years, including 2 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, is seemingly out the door in a matter of minutes. Maybe it's from younger people who are too young and ignorant to know from where we came...how irrelevant Clemson Football was for 30 years until Dabo took the reigns. I don't know. I am as disappointed as anyone, but the outcry and "sky is falling" mentality is silly. No one can always and forever be #1. The law of averages tells us at some point we aren't going to have a superstar quarterback. Even the supposed great ones just don't pan out sometimes. Our o-line is obviously a work in progress. Our running back situation is a bit messy (transfers didn't help). We're having some sh!tty luck.

One thing we KNOW WITH CERTAINTY is that Dabo knows how to build a program. We've watched it over and over for 10 years. Over the course of time he's made many a difficult decision and most often he's been spot on. I have to believe he has his finger on the pulse of the situation and will right the ship by whatever means necessary. If changes need to be made, I am sure he'll recognize that and make them. People are acting as if Dabo hasn't been here/done that.

As far as Tony Elliot is concerned, I'm willing to ride it out with him for now. He's been with this offense and calling plays (Yes, along with others) through the most exciting and prolific era in the 100+ years of Clemson football. I honestly believe we were better off in our national championship runs with Elliot/Scott calling plays than with Chad Morris (and challenge anyone to disagree with that). To think, all of the sudden, Elliot is the biggest dope around is absurd. To my eyes, we've got some talent deficiencies that need upgrading. When that happens, the coaches will all be genius' again and the play calling will suddenly look great...just like it has for the past 5 years.

99% of Clemson fans are still behind Dabo. Criticism of certain aspects of the program does not make you fair weather. He makes 9 million a year, he doesn’t need your defense.

What won us NCs in the past, won’t necessarily win us NCs in the future. It’s up to Dabo to fix it, and I believe he will.

Criticism is one thing. This board is lit up with fans acting as if we've just come off of back to back 5-6 seasons.

The problem is the coaches are deflecting the criticism instead of owning it. We aren’t producing and it doesn’t take a coaching genius to see it. Quit acting like the fans have no idea what they are looking at and get to work.

Most of them are fair weather fans and fans who just want to dump on Clemson here on this great site, but some are low life coots and other schools’ random fans who would love to see Clemson go down so they add to the negativity.

No, we’d like our coaches who get paid millions of dollars to not take their top 5 roster and turn that into one of the worst offenses in CFB.

Sorry this is too hard to understand.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, those are few and far between......

Sep 27, 2021, 3:58 PM [ in reply to Re: Fairweather fans... ]

and the ones who are calling for Dabo's head (which I haven't seen yet) likely don't have a clue about football.

That being said, the OLine problems have been a problem for a LOOOOONG time. The 2016 Oline was probably our best during our "run", but it still wasn't that good considering we won the national title. So while we haven't had back2back 5-6 wins seasons we have had back2back+ seasons with PATHETIC OLINE PLAY after landing some of the best Oline classes in our history..........it's time for Caldwell to go. A defense shouldn't be able to send THREE guys after the QB and SACK HIM when you have a program like ours right now.........that's unacceptable.

I'm not currently calling for TE's head, BUT I am calling for him to "change it up", the play calling has been atrocious and inconsistent...........if he continues to call the same predictable plays over the course of the season then maybe it is time for him to go. I personally think our offensive staff could use some "outsider" eyes, some "fresh ideas" not the same "we do what we do" mentality b/c college football is changing and has changed over the last 5 years and honestly I don't think we've adapted, but we've had some players that have been able to mask it to a certain extent. Spiller, Elliott, Streeter, Grisham, Stoudt, Boyd, Thomas Austin all fairly recent hires that know nothing other than "THE CLEMSON WAY"..........I don't think that's a good thing.

Lastly, Dabo HAS TO ADAPT and ADOPT some play in the transfer portal. He doesn't need to "depend" on it, but he MUST use it to strategically build/fill some positional defeciencies. Other national brands aren't shy about dipping into the portal and neither should we. Like it or not it's the way things are in CFB in today's world.

Honestly, TE is a good man. I’ve met and talked with him at youth football camps when my son attended. Very sincere person, but I believe he’s over his head. He and Scott together were able to make it work, and things weren’t perfect when Scott was here. We just had great talent at the vital positions to make it all work. Now, he, along with Dabo, have this everything is fine attitude, or that’s how they’re portraying it.
We have a bad Oline, lack of chemistry on the offense, and they seem to be bending over backwards to fix DJ. What’s been going on the past off-season?
One thing to lose to UGA, but no excuse for not being prepared for teams like GT and NC State.

don't confuse Fairweather fans with disgruntled fans

Sep 27, 2021, 3:26 PM

i like to think a lot of these people are really hardcore fans who care deeply about Clemson .. just disgruntled and need a safe place to vent their frustrations.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

So much wrong with your ridiculous rant

Sep 27, 2021, 3:28 PM

But Ill start with the "fair weather fan" part. So, unless you burry your head in the sand, ignore reality, and pump sunshine regardless of any outcome, youre a fair weather fan? That about the size of it? Just want to make sure Im clear.

Secondly - once again we have some moronic post about TE was some genius play caller before the past 4 games. If thats what you think, you have NO IDEA what youre talking about. Anyone that actually understands what they are watching (not just reading box scores) knew this offense was VERY vanilla, VERY predictable, and VERY unimaginative YEARS ago. Its been painfully obvious. Difference was we had TL, and ETN, and Tee, and Rogers, ETC to mask how utterly inept the scheme and play calling has been.

But if youre content no longer dominating the league and bored of going to the playoffs every year, well, keep hoping we keep TE around I guess.

Utterly baffling to me that folks think fans that expect and demand better for their program/school and out of the highest paid staff in the country are fair weather fans lol.....SMH.

Sunshine Pumper?

Sep 27, 2021, 3:53 PM

Unparalleled success in our history and 1 not so great season in 9 years and you're ready for scorched earth? Sunshine pumper...really? I haven't heard that phrase since booger eaters like you wanted Dabo run out on a rail when he was first hired. Talk about moronic.

Demand better for their program? ### are you talking about? How much better do you think the fans deserve?

i agree the offense was pretty stagnate the past couple of

years. I knew we'd have to win a shoot out to beat OSU and wondered if we had a shoot out type offense. I could never count the miraculous with Trevor or ETN but I knew the answer. I sometimes wondered if Trevor played for Oklahoma or OSU what his numbers would've looked like. Because i know those two teams have offensive schemes that seem to always work, are calculated, efficient and are constantly adjusting to create open receivers. I knew we seemed to never have that. Trevor had to run a 75 yard Touchdown against OSU two years ago to win the game because we kept going 3 and out or had multiple stalled drives. And then in the LSU game it was another shoot out that we needed to have and we just didnt' have the scheme to do it.

This year we need the scheme more than ever. We need easy timing routes to get us moving. Just get us started. Not stretch routes and double covered post routes. Wheres the easy dump off to the tight end? Wheres a half back screen? Why does DJ not average over 65 yards a game running the RPO and actually keeping it. Wheres the mis-direction to keep the Linebackers from teeing off on our OL? Its just not working and we don't have that difference maker at QB like we have for the past two championship campaigns. I thought the QB had to run to make our offense work. DJ is big enough to get the tough yardage. I'm assuming he's hurt or they just want to bubble wrap him. But then we gotta update the offense if we're not running RPO with the QB as a threat to run significant yards.

Frustrated? Yes. Bandwagon? Nossir...too old and dyed in Orange and White to be considered a fake. I just know what kinda talent we have running around out here on Saturdays and know we're 30 points better than NC State.

Yes, Dabo has proved he can build a program. The jury is out on if he can maintain it at the same level over the long run. Let us hope and pray that he can, because it does not appear that he will be leaving for another job.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The jury is out?

Sep 27, 2021, 3:56 PM

We've had a top tier football program since 2012. If that is not maintaining relative to the life expectancy of a football dynasty then I don't know what is...

Creekman, Be ready for some serious backlash from the "Doomsday" crowd as the right to YOUR opinion will be ridiculed and drowned out (that's the way it's played these days...control the media and control the message).
It's always intriguing how someone like Dabo can be considered a fine person and evaluator of people and players when the sun is shining but cannot judge coaches and is an idiot when it's raining.
People, the sun WILL rise again tomorrow, maybe not as bright as yesterday, but it will rise..
I anticipate that criticism to this comment, of course, will be forthcoming.

I’m not going to dive into your misplaced rant about fair weather fans, I’ve been supporting Clemson since 1972 so please, stop that non-sense even if some are fair weather fans.

For those that forget, it was Chad who created our identity on offense, who’s offensive model transformed Clemson from an SEC type run, run, run team into an offensive juggernaut, who helped showed Dabo how to be a good HC, who brought a toughness to this team Dabo hadn’t, who demanded his WRs and TEs BLOCK or you don’t play, who challenged our S&C and Nutrition programs that needed overhauling, who helped recruit some of the very best QBs and WRs this program has ever seen.

I get that some people love to bash him for whatever reason but if you think TE could hold a candle to Chad, we live on different planets.

I have no issue with you being happy with Clemson and Dabo and are willing to let things play out - that is a reasoned response although it is still just an opinion mind you. We are not a blue blood program that has infinite resources and a media that adores them, we are a very small rural school who survive and thrive on the passionate fans that make our home games simply special and the financial support to pay this coaching staff beyond the wildest dreams of most anyone in the country. So maybe just remember there are clearly two sides to this coin and painting such a broad brush isn’t “fair” either.
