Aortic Valve Replacement

Jul 13, 2022, 3:11 PM

Well Tiger Friends., my valve replacement yesterday afternoon went beautifully, I am feeling great and getting ready to head home in a little while. Feeling blessed. Imagine. my pleasant surprise when my Anesthesiologist showed up in a surgical cap covered in orange Tiger Paws. After thirty minutes of talking about the Tigers, we got down to business about the procedure. Then in the OR he was telling the others about having to take good care of a special patient. One of the other doctors said that he went too Wofford. So I had some home state care.
Ready for some Clemson football. Already have my TigerPaw flag flying at full mask.

Which valve material did you choose? Synthetic or Pig?

Jul 13, 2022, 3:18 PM

My father had the same procedure about 7 years ago.

at least can still eat bacon and not feel bad about it. My buddy had that procedure done last summer (but with a pig's aorta) and I give him crap every time I see him eat bacon.

Congrats, I had a St Jude aortic valve replacement 29 years ago and I'm still sporting the same valve. The technology is much better today!! You may live long enough to see the coots win the SEC - nah, never going to happen!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Glad to hear that. The only experiences I know of about

If you received your Clemson degree in 1950 as your bio suggest I will have to say I admire you. Tell us all your secret. I thought at 81 that I was in great health but I sure don’t compare with you.
You have to be tough to live in Raleigh. For that I don’t admire you. lol

Jul 14, 2022, 10:33 AM

They cut me open like a sardine can when they repaced mine with a pig valve a few years back, and recovery was long and rough. Mechanical valves can now be done arthroscopically and you're home next day or two. Truly amazing. Happy for you and here's wishing you a long and healthy life with your new valve!

Go Tigers!

IThanks for the suggestion regarding exercise. I have always been one to follow recommend exercises. With knee replacement I could bend the knee well beyond 90 degrees within a week, much to the amazement of my therapist.
