Not worried about Goodwin or the defense

It will take him a few games to lock in but I expect the defense to improve as the season progresses.

DJ, Tyler Grisham and the offense represent the biggest question marks IMO.

Lastly, didn't realize Simpson was up to 235 lbs. Yikes! If he retains his athleticism and speed, he's gonna be a nightmare and probably get drafted top half of the 1st round next year.

Two word summation: Speed kills.

Way back in the 1980s the Miami Hurricanes were the first team to really adopt this strategy for the defense. Safeties became linebackers. Linebackers became edge rushers. DE's became DT's.

Bobby Bowden said he finally recognized the advantage Miami had over FSU was the speed of the defense. He modified his recruiting philosophy. A linebacker has to be fast. He doesn't have to be faster than a cornerback, but he has to be faster than other linebackers. Same with every position on D.

Now, virtually every team is utilizing that philosophy to some degree. Offensive skill position players are becoming faster and faster. Defensive players have to be faster than offensive players. Safeties have to be faster than TE. Corners have to be faster than WRs. Will and Sam have to be as fast as RB.

The guys who can recruit the fastest athletes at their position are the ones with the best defenses.

I'm looking forward to watching the Clemson D exploit their team speed.

Love watching great athletes play in space. A play looks like it's going for a big gain and they are dropped for a short gain. On the stat sheet it goes down as a tackle but it's 3rd and 7 instead of 3rd and 1. That's what wins football games.

I also think he’s inherited an amazing, nearly perfect situation. He has a defense loaded with talent. That will make any coach look great.

You are correct sir, this defense is loaded. The corners are a question mark but the talent is there.
