Is it legal to put a Port-a-John in a house in Clemson?

Feb 10, 2021, 10:20 PM

Clemson water is too expensive. I plan on digging a well in the spring. The largest problem without having water I find is the toilet issue.

Having been born into a home without indoor plumbing (Think outhouse), I would highly recommend against it. Unless your wife's cooking is so bad, you need to cover-up the smell.

You would prolly have more luck with portajon in your house than digging a well. You may need to chk with your local municipality. Some ordinances forbid it. Here in Cootville it’s illegal to have a well that serves your home. They make you pay absorbent amount of money to the local water service. There’s really no way around it. But I found a way around it and that’s installing an irrigation well. Yes it is much smaller but it can supply water to your washing machine, shower, dish washer, etc. I would t run your whole house nor would I fill a pool as you can destroy ur well pump. Just be adamant about you would only use it to irrigate your lawn.

With all due respect, I find it hard to believe

Everything in Clemson is expensive.

Their property taxes are the highest in Pickens County.

There's something in these hills.

Not surprising considering the density of the city and the relatively small size/footprint. Density of Clemson is about 2,400 per mile as compared to Easley which is about 1,600/mi. Pickens is about 1,000/mi. To provide services to a higher density per acre is going to be higher property tax. Thus if the tax per acre was the same, then the tax dollar would not cover as much. For example, 640sc ina Sq/mi. 2400/640= 3.75 per acre in Clemson. 2.5 in Easley. Thus if you are going to provide municipal services in Clemson based on property, then you also have to charge more per acre since the demand is 150% greater.

Also, it is always a mixed bag. For example, my county "lowered my tax rate" - yay right? Nope, they hiked my taxes because they also followed up with an assessment increase. So rather than being charge X cents per dollar at a residential sqft rate of $150/sqft, they hiked it to $200/sqft equivalent. My taxes went up but they crowed about lowing the tax rates.... thieves.

But surprisingly not their water rates per SC Rural Infrastructure Authority. That honor goes to Central and Liberty of all places.

Pickens:

Water Sewer
Central, Town of $ 26.35 $ 51.82
Clemson, City of $ 28.53 $ 40.11
Easley, City of $ 27.97 $ 36.48
Liberty, City of $ 28.49 $ 47.72
Norris, Town of $ 32.00
Pickens, City of $ 34.50 $ 32.70
Six Mile, Town of $ 40.85

Dude, you may want to get clearance from your wife, kids, neighbors, friends (probably won't have any :)) after a couple of visits.

in the back. It's on Front Street believe it or not.

Good luck with the Port-a-John. You might want to try RV'ing if paying for water and sewer is a stretch.
