Everyone wants to compare us (and all others) to Nick Saban.

Dec 15, 2021, 6:51 PM

Butt, there is one foe that even Nick Saban will never defeat, and that is Father Time. In a couple or three years, Saban will retire. Then, Alabama will have to start all over again, because there is NO continuity of coaching there.

Dabo Swinney, on the other hand, has meticulously built his program on continuity, and promotion from within whenever possible. And, he is JUST NOW APPROACHING THE AGE SABAN WAS WHEN HE STARTED WINNING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. Think about that for a minute.

Some of us want to go PFFTTT, whenever we hear Dabo say "The Best is Yet to Come." I wouldn't want to bet against him, especially once Saban takes to the rocking chair.

Can’t kill the Satan but I hope you’re right that Saban will eventually retire

You as well as all of us better hope Saban stays a good while longer. Would you be aware of who his “obvious” replacement would be? Heard that enough and I’ve had of enough of this turnover krap for another 10 years!

I don’t follow the argument on why Dabo would want to follow in Saban’s shoes and always be second fiddle. Doesn’t strike me as that type.

You are correct about Father Time. But there is another factor to consider and that is the landscape of college football in 2 or 3 years. How will NIL, and the Portal be regulated, and viewed? Will the playoff's be expanded?
Who can say? But one thing I wish people would stop doing is comparing coaches. Nick Saban is who is because he is a good coach, but he also coaches at the one school every wide eyed 13 -14 year old who wants to play college football wants to attend.
Would he have won 6 National Titles at Clemson? Highly unlikely because before Dabo Clemson had only one and that was 40 years ago. Look at Georgia. They have had some good coaches since Dooley retired but not one can claim a National Title.
It would be interesting to see what Dabo could do at Alabama, but frankly it would not bother many of us if he got 1 or 2 more before leaving to coach Alabama when Nick does hang it up.

It's hard to ignore Kirby with (5) 5 stars and (14) 4 stars in one recruiting class.

For context - Georgia has 5 of the top 22 recruits...

Even with his terrible coaching, the level of talent is not even.
