Everyone is calling for Tony Elliot's head on a platter

Oct 20, 2021, 9:06 PM

but DJU

1. locks in on his # 1 receiver from the snap - he never looks anyone off

2. cannot find his 2nd or 3rd receiver

3. cannot throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield with consistent accuracy

4. runs the ball like a 250 pound marshmallow

and the O-line cannot run block even when there are only 5 or 6 defenders in the box

Given all of that, exactly what kind of plays would you like TE to call ?

If Clemson keeps the offensive coaching staff intact and runs the same offense as this year, then the buck stops on Dabo's desk.

I do not think that will happen. I have speculated on what I think the problem is, and offered my perspective on what must be done to fix it. But, I'm just a keyboard warrior, not a highly paid coach.

I trust that Dabo will, and already has been, evaluate the situation and come up with a solution. He's not the kind of guy who says, "That's OK. We'll do better next year." Ask Kevin Steele.

And makes me wonder about recruiting! Dabo says this & that & everybody believes him. Everybody talks about alabama & their players but how many have went to nfl & had problems. Not one. He recuits so much better than Dabo. And he recruits tough ### men that cN play football. But Dabo wants these mama’s boys thT he can control. Well Dabo it ain’t working no mire. You got to get tough boys & he does not know how to recruit anymore. And our coaches #### suck. We look like high school shot.

Oh really? You think Dabo has come to his senses yet? NO & keeps making stupid excuses on every game/ I really don’t think Dabo knows football that much & I thought he was a good recruiter till DJ is the only QB we have! Really?? Go to portal & find a wuaterback. And Elliot streeter & Caldwell need to pack their bags.

Ugh Oregeron LSU lost his contract after beating Florida. I never knew we had small minded people backing Clemson. This a business & if you do t win or perform your butt is gone. But all these fans says oh we won the natty for 3 times so we can’t change but you can because Dabo & his team (coaches) are it doing it.

The offensive coordinator is responsible for the offense.

Oct 20, 2021, 9:29 PM

The offense sucks. Whatever the reason are he needs to fix it or Dabo needs to make an OC change.

Can the OC honestly be held fully responsible for the offense

Oct 20, 2021, 9:36 PM

given the fact that his head coach is reportedly very involved with scheme and play calling?

Great point judge and in my opinion, this is why CDS has protected TE. Maybe because he shares equal responsibility? Who knows!

And that’s likely the issue. TE made a few comments in his post game interview that seemed to be insinuating Dabo was overriding him, regularly. Dabo was far less involved when Coach Scott was in the sideline.

If TE can't fix the offense this year, what does everyone think is going to happen next year?

I’m not a big TE fan…

Oct 20, 2021, 9:31 PM

But everything you listed is a coaching issue, just not necessarily Elliot’s. Which makes me wonder why folks aren’t screaming for Streeter’s head on a platter.

And if you bring up letting Taison have a series or two all you’ll hear is how he’s not ready and can’t run the offense. If that’s true, then that falls on the QB coach as well. I mean the kid has been here 3 years he should be ready by now.

Holliday,

Maybe DJU just cannot learn to do these things, despite the coaches working with him on them.

I have a question.

Oct 20, 2021, 9:40 PM

When a coach gets fired, do they really cut off his head and place it on a platter?

And then what do they do with it?

Seems really weird.

Of all the fools that have posted here, the one with the quasi-Cajun handle is the Queen Bee of the idiot hive.

I know I know, the idiot contingent wants to fire the entire staff and run Dabo off ... with some real 'winner' like Fed OgerOn or their U of S.Carolina favorite (Willymina Muschamp).

Re: Everyone is calling for Tony Elliot's head on a platter

Maybe the process involves looking at the players and then working upwards. If so, then take a look at DJ5.

Go back to the GA post-game presser. Only player who shows up in three-piece suit, lots of jewelry, fedora and grooming himself during the intereview. C'mon man. That's not who Clemson is. I saw NIL with an astersik.

He was supposedly a 5 star, that was hight school. It's college time now. Last season he did have 2 really good games. BUT the offensive line was better, the receivers ran better routes, no NILs, etc.

If at and during PITT there is no major improvement (which we can agree it's going to take to win) then we'll know how the coaches up the line (Swinney, Elliott) honestly feel about DJ5 if TP or even HH doens't get a series or two.

Re: Everyone is calling for Tony Elliot's head on a platter

Oct 21, 2021, 11:10 AM

Gee, uh ...
Maybe throw more than 3 quick short passes in the whole game!?! Throw a bunch of 5 to 15 yard passes to slot receivers, tight-ends, and running backs!

Then try running the ball; followed by a few more short passes; then throw it deep!

This is DJU's strength!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Everyone is calling for Tony Elliot's head on a platter

Oct 21, 2021, 11:41 AM

1. see response to #2

2. DJ completed 9 passes to the TE in the Syracuse game. You telling me Tony Elliott called NINE plays where the TE was the #1 target on the play?

3. There were 3 drops on throws of 20+ in the Syracuse game where the ball hit the WR in the hands. That just counts yards in the air and not what the WRs may have gotten after the catch if a catch had been made.

4. He is 250 lbs. The marshmallow part seems opinionated.

Elliott can keep calling the same plays, but maybe come back to the ones that work a few extra times until they are stopped. If I had OL going the wrong way and WRs who can't decide between looking impressive for 1 o 2 snaps per game and falling on their faces an equal number of times or more I would struggle to figure out what to call as well.

My main complaint with him is that at times he goes away from something that's working well before it's stopped and doesn't come back to it when other things aren't working.

I would argue that run blocking is the O lines strong suit. Pass blocking and screen blocking is horrendous.
