Euro Cup England

Jul 3, 2021, 4:26 PM

Why is there not a United Kingdom team in the Euro Cup? Instead I have seen teams from England and Wales.

There are also teams from Scotland & Ireland. Having a UK team would be like having a football team from the state of SC in addition to Clemson, Furman, USC, Citadel etc.

Ireland is not part of the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland is part of the UK.

There is actually a special exemption written into EUFA bylaws to allow UK countries to complete separately as its a historical thing, especially since soccer was invented in England.

Though in the Olympics, if they decide to have a team they have to play as a combined team UK, which they did during the London Olympics.

Ireland has a soccer team but they re at a severe disadvantage. It’s almost impossible to play really high level soccer inside a pub.

In FIFA, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

All have separate teams.

Unlike the Olympics or tennis where they compete as the UK.
