I'm gonna try and wrap things up in one post and move on with my night.
Quite simply, I don't think I've ever been as embarrassed watching a Clemson team play as I was tonight. UNC in town, "sold out coliseum," showcased on ESPN, and this is how you respond? Where's the fire? I'm looking at you Brownell. I'm looking at you Booker. I'm looking at you Milton! Ridiculous.
I simply don't want to watch this team play another game. Don't get this twisted either, this team is not very talented, and I get that. But there have been far less talented Clemson teams than this that I'd prefer to watch anyday of the week.
Booker, Milton, I hope you enjoyed your time at Clemson. I for one can't wait to see you move on and let this program move forward. You have zero pride, aren't team players, and have set a HORRIBLE example for all the underclassment on this team, most of which have half the talent that you happen to possess (not due to your work ethic, of course).
Brownell, I'm sick of hearing about how great of a coach you are. I bought it. I did, I'll admit it. But there is NO EXCUSE for your program looking like this after 3 years. People who say we can't do better, get a freaking clue, or go pull for the coots. CLEMSON CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS!!!!
Quite simply all the points people bring up when sticking up for you are all a result of something YOU didn't do right somewhere along the way. 3 years of recruiting, and this is where our program is at? Seriously? Not only are you a HORRIBLE recruiter, which is why we have NO TALENT on this team, you can't even keep the players you do recruit!
I hope you realize that your job isn't just to sit there and impress other coaches by spending all your time drawing up X's and O's. You gotta get better players, period. You gotta develope those players to play at an ACC level. We got a great coach that knows a thing or 2 about recruiting right down the road. Why don't you pay him a visit? Why don't you develope a personality so that players actually want to play for you? Dabo was able to keep CJ Spiller on the football team, despite likely being a first round draft pick. Every year, you lose about 1/4 of your roster b/c kids simply don't want to be here any longer! That's on you, and there's simply no way around it!
It's put up or shut up time next year. I wish you and the team the best, but you better at least go down swinging. We should never be subjected to the type of performances we are now accostumed to this year!

True, and I can only speak for myself, but my posts rarely consist of how great things are or how bad they are. I'm just not a big message board poster.
Tonight's performance completely warranted me going on a rant. I can apologize b/c my blood was absolutely boiling watching that pile of garbage, but the basketball team is the one that should be apologizing.
Maybe these other infrequent posters are the same way. You can call me pathetic all you want, but the only thing pathetic tonight was our basketball team. If you're making excuses for them and still pumping sunshine, then I'd find you pathetic as well.

This thread's gotten so off topic it isn't even funny. Still find it funny that all you sunshine pumpers that keep talking smack in my thread still HAVE NOT DISPUTED ONE POINT that I originally made.
Really pathetic that you can't even attempt to make a counter arguement. Guess I'll just take that as a concession of how right I am. Feel free to tell me if you think I'm wrong about the state of our program, or anything else I stated....

If we want to have a basketball program, we need to hire a coach who has proven himself at the ACC level. Quit hiring unproven coaches. Hope is not a plan for winning. Our basketball coaches stay long enough to get fired or if they get lucky and win a few games they move on to greener pastures. We need to become a destination not a waypoint.

I agree with all your points and do think Booker loafs a good bit. However, I think he was the only one showing any fire tonight and was sprinting around on the press. If he wasn't on the court, we lose by 30 in my opinion.
As for the other people that sit on this board all day and get mad when people make rational points about a pitiful performance, they are just as pathetic as the game that I just watched. I say plenty, plenty of positives about Clemson and am a Clemson grad. However, I can also realize and criticize when things are bad and some idiots take to calling people coots out of sheer ignorance.

Great post.
I understand where you're coming from on Booker, but that was all pretty much all the 2nd half and he could have exploited them far worse IMO. If he sees the type of effort everyone else saw from this team, it's on him as a SR to step up and lead by example. That's not just on offense when you're already down 14, but he's got to dominate the boards on defense too.
Did anyone see that Minnesota-Indiana game the other night? They had a 5th year SR that has 1/2 the talent of Booker, who completely changed that game from the opening tip. Got a standing ovation leaving the court with 12 minutes left in the first half, and had already reached his season averages in points and rebounds! Great example of a SR stepping up and leading by example with extraordinary effort and an uncommon willingness to win. We see 1/2 of that from Booker and Milton, and this is a completely different game. Instead, they just went through the motions, IMO.

I thought Booker's effectiveness in the paint was Clemson's only bright spot tonight. As for the comment about Clemson basketball not having any talent... I disagree. They played with little discipline tonight, (and that is why they lost) but Jennings, Booker, & McDaniels have all shown they have talent. Other players have also shown potential.
If alumni/fans want Clemson basketball to compete with UNC, Duke, etc. then they need to work together and find more creative ways to compete with the elite programs Clemson plays. Blaming the coach & players doesn't solve anything IMO.

If alumni/fans are serious about recruiting against UNC, Duke, etc. then I suggest finding ways to improve what Clemson has to offer top recruits.
It will be difficult (if not impossible) to compete with coaches like Coach K, Williams, but Clemson could use their respective ages against them by choosing to go much younger with their head coach. (Shaka Smart or Brad Stevens perhaps)
Winning tradition isn't something that can be overcome over night. However, if you can start winning; tradition means less and less with every win. (Clemson/SC football)
Clemson University also owns more land and the campus has potential to be even more of an asset. This would require the administration and alumni/fans to place as much emphasis on other athletics though. (like they do with football)

I wouldn't, and I agree that this is going to get worse next season.
I've never expected much from Clemson BB, and I guess BB got that message from the Clemson nation. However, he seems to have taken this low expectations even lower than Clemson fans can suffer through.
I'd say you just have to punt this one into the end zone and start fresh. BB was TD's 4th or 5th choice anyway.

I was busy elsewise and didn't get to watch it. However, I understand frustrations over our BB program, frankly because we've never really had a long history of great success. This comes from our football first mentality, which is rampant throughout the Clemson nation. I've posted several times that that type of mentality won't change until we make a concerted effort, beginning with the BOT, and I believe there is no reason for Clemson not to excel in a sport other than football.
I'll admit that I am a football first person, simply because during the 50 years of my association with Clemson, I've not seen the firm commitment to modify the mindset. For that reason I won't condemn our BB coaching staff nor team members. However, I have heard the same type complaints as yours for many years...away from TigerNet.

1) The attrition we have experienced is not from our best players. No one has transferred from Clemson under Brownell and gone to a better school or even a comparable school. the players that have left all went to lower tier schools because they were at the bottom end of our roster.
2) Brownell has not had 3 classes make it to Clemson. He is in his third season season and the freshman class that was here when he started was Purnell's (signing day is in the fall for most players). Purnell had 1 player and that player left for GT after Purnell was fired. Brownell has thus had 2 classes make it to campus and he didn't have a full year to recruit his first class. It will be two more seasons before any of "his" players are seniors.
3) To call out Clemson's two leading scorers in a game for their lack of effort - especially when one score 25! points is absolutely ludicrous.
Do I think the team should be playing better than they have? Yes. Do I think these results are acceptable? No. But to say the things you have and make the conclusions that you have is ridiculous. Try watching the games and thinking before talking out of your butt.

that Clemson's two best pure scorers (Coleman and Blossomgame) are out for the season. If they are on the team, Clemson is a .500 ACC team and then I don't have to hear all of this b****ing and moaning.

Basketball does not matter at Clemson University any more than Football matters at Duke University. I attended Clemson from 1979 to 1984 and saw some great wins incl. over #1 Duke in 1979. It was fun, but it was a lark.
Barnes recognized basketball does not matter at Clemson. Purnell recognized it. Real Clemson hoops fans recognize it. You are just picking up on this fact. Sad for you. Ho hum.
