email from a coot after their scrimmage

Aug 19, 2021, 11:09 AM

Subject: Uggghhhhhh

Team Scoop

I have spoken with more sources about how South Carolina's first scrimmage went over the weekend. The more I have learned, the worse it sounds as far as how the offense performed. One source went as far as to say, "it was really bad." Now, keep in mind there was no Luke Doty, no Kevin Harris and others were held out for various reasons. The performance of the quarterbacks was one of the main reasons the coaching staff decided to elevate Zeb Noland from graduate assistant to the active roster. Based on what I was told, I think it is imperative for Doty and Harris to get back to full health as quickly as possible, especially Doty. They also need to get EJ Jenkins back as soon as possible. I am not sure the Gamecocks can beat many teams on the schedule without Doty as the primary quarterback.

Normally, I would view it as a positive that the defense is ahead of the offense in the first scrimmage of fall practice, but there is just no legitimate reason to believe the defense is going to be a strength this season given the talent holes and inexperience in the secondary and linebacker. I do think the defensive backs can improve as the season goes on, but it is hard to envision a scenario where there are not growing pains in the first half of the season. Maybe I will feel differently once the next two scrimmages have been played and some of the key players have returned, but I have tempered my season expectations to some degree based on the most recent feedback I've received, and I did not have lofty expectations to begin with.

My intent with this article is certainly not to discourage anyone who pulls for South Carolina, even though I know it's not the news the fan base is hoping for with season opener less than three weeks away. I still believe in Shane Beamer and this staff's ability to build the program the right way and to eventually put a quality product on the field. I just think it's going to take time and patience to get the talent level where it needs to be at some of the positions where it is currently lacking. There is also still time for improvement to be made during the rest of fall practice and once they get some of the key missing players back in the lineup. I will have a much better feel once fall practice is complete.

"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard

Why in the world did Pickens and Burch stay and not transfer out?

Not sure about Burch, but as for Pickens...

his mother would have to return the money she got for sending he son that that cesspool.

Both Burch and Pickens are Mommas boys who lack the critical thinking skills or capacity to make their own decisions or think for themselves.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Zen Noland - will be the first player to collect the Heisman Trophy and social security in the same season.
