Elmer Fudd now, Cannon at Death Valley next?

Jun 8, 2020, 2:16 PM

HBO Max has decided to take away Elmer Fudd's firearm in their reintroduction of Looney Tunes. They are replacing it with a scythe which is a deescalation of violence against Bugs Bunny??? TNT usage is still ok in the cartoon. Go figure. Cannons are instruments of great violence. Is the cannon next on the PC chopping block? I'm joking I think. Just finished Fortitude by Dan Crenshaw who lost one eye and almost the other eye to an IED in Afghanistan while serving as a SEAL. He has a message in the book that I am trying to adopt although it isn't always easy. The message is try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.

Negative re: cartoon characters with guns. Fred Flintstone was a favorite of mine. Fred never brandished a firearm to my knowledge. Also liked Underdog--no gun. I do enjoy shooting guns, but doing so doesn't make me feel like a man or something--whatever something is. Lighten up. My point with all the issues we are facing, for someone to feel like altering a cartoon is a worthy endeavor shows how bizarre the times are.

How crazy is that??? The world will be safer disarming Elmer and Sam. What if Elmer and Sam want give up their guns will the government take them by force?? Will we have a Looney Tunes Stand off?? Eventually government siege??

What about Elmer’s rabbit traps! It’s ok to take Elmer Fudd’s gun but I guess Hollywood will continue to use bad vulgar language , violence, sex and other offensive stuff. That’s ok. I believe Hollywood has more of a negative influence on society that Elmer Fudd shooting at a Silly Wabbit. ?? It’s so funny that they attack Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd , Daffy Duck, whose next? The Road Runner ?? The cartoons today seems to have more violence than Bugs Bunny, Deputy Dog, Road Runner, The Flintstones and many of the old cartoons.

When is this madness going to stop. I don’t see how taking Elmer’s gun away will unite this country. Look to Washington DC to start working together since they work for us. It’s time we reminded them of who the boss is.

I agree with original post. I am going to do my best to complain less, be more patient and more tolerant of others. I am going to focus on less road rage, and I am going to let things offend me less. I pray I can treat my neighbor’s a little nicer and try to be a more positive person. And learn to be a better listener.

I know right?

These losers get all spun up about cartoons, movies, TV shows, comic books, even video games. Seriously? C'mon man, it's just entertainment, they need to quit acting like there's some kind of cultural bugaboo going on out there. None of these things matter. Relax and enjoy the entertainment. Cartoons, movies, TV shows, and comic books are so much better now anyway.

It certainly is an enigma. Wrapped in a riddle.

Do you think people notice what the leftists are doing? And then get mocked and ridiculed when they point it out? That might be a good sign that the left might be up to something. I just can’t imagine what.

Dang right I love cartoons. I just find them entertaining and funny. It sure beats some of the crap on TV. What’s next , remove old westerns and shows with guns from TV. How many more freedoms are you willing to give up Clemsonjoe?? Do you think taking Elmer Fudd’s gun will solve violence in the world, race relations or make this a better world. What else do you think we should get rid of to fix a broken society??

IMO we should turn things over to God and pray that he will help mankind make the world a better place.

Re: Looney Toons died the day Mel Blanc passed away

They show the old cartoons on The Carton Channel. Call me crazy but I love the Flintstones. And sometimes there so much junk on TV that cartoons can be a nice change. But it’s Deputy Dog, Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry.

The newer cartoons are bad. Mel Blanc was the king of cartoon voices. The newer cartoons have laser guns and in some cases more violence than the oldies.

They're disarming Yosemite Sam too.

What kind of hunter uses a scythe? A psychopath?

After that fails I guess they'll have him hunt with a strongly worded letter or a Karen who must see the manager.

What the hick is happening to this crazy world. What do they hope to accomplish by taking away cartoon character’s gun just to give them basically a sling blade. Maybe the can have a world summit at one of the kindergartens. Lol No adults allowed.

These are knee jerk reactions that offer no long term or permanent settlements to societies problems. Until we start a dialogue among the races to try and understand each other and learn more tolerance and acceptance of one another, I don’t think Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam are going to provide solutions.

Maybe everyone one should read the article about Kenneth Page. It’s under the news headlines. A great story that could teach us all something.

Widespread Group-Think

Jun 8, 2020, 4:26 PM

Clemsonjoe - I think his point was that it's silly and unnecessary. What does Elmer Fudd have to do with anything in real life? (rhetorical question).

We are living in bizarre times. Virtue signaling is the new thing. I have a bad feeling about the level of "group" think" we're currently seeing nationally. These things never end well, for anybody. I don't see much debate. What I do see are a lot of big corporations, Hollywood types, Entertainers, etc., and the masses making quick decisions and shaming (or worse) those that disagree.

Ask yourself a question. Do you think people really suddenly realized that Elmer Fudd was chasing a rabbit with a gun? If so, why did it take a lifetime to figure out that it was offensive?? Did you just happen to come to this conclusion on your own and coincidentally when everyone else got offended? Was it really an instrument of your independent thought?

My point is that people's moral compasses are spinning so fast it's impossible to know what they really believe in. It seems like a LOT of people are taking their cues on how and what to think from the mob. They do this simply because they are weakminded and scared. Excuse me for not buying the notion that they JUST NOW figured out they're terrible people and therefore changing their lives for the better (at the same time as everyone else).

"If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything" - Alexander Hamilton
