all right, negative nellies....

Sep 5, 2021, 10:56 AM

Every year I have to hear this crud about how Elliott needs to be fired, blahbudeeblahblah. If the offense was vanilla last night, it was in large part to the fact that a)offensive line looks like they spent off-season mostly learning how to make cupcakes in the EZ Bake; b)QB who looked like a genius last year against BC and Notre Dame looked like possum in road under headlights. Honestly, I know what was going through my head when I watched him early on bend down so that the onrushing linebacker could fold him up more easily, and I'm guessing it was the same thing going through Elliott's head: "This gonna be a looooong night." Not sure what happened to the kid, but he has the mobility of a turtle. And yet, we were in that game. As someone else mentioned, perhaps sarcastically, but with a large grain of truth, without the pick-6, we may well win that game 6-3. The fascination and irritation with college football teams is you really never know what you are gonna get from week to week. My guess is that the offense does what the offense seems to do every year: get better from game to game until they look like they've got it figured out when it really matters, and as painful as last night was, it didn't really matter. We didn't get stomped. We didn't almost manage to lose to Tulane in our home stadium. Imagine how UNC feels. You think our quarterback showed problems? Howell was a Heisman contender for at least fifteen minutes. The thing that probably made the game last night sting so much was that we all watched Alabama effortlessly tear through Miami earlier. Well, we would have torn through Miami as well. Heck, Tulane would have torn through Miami. Georgia IS a solid football team that also, at the moment, may or may not have a real offense, because both of us demonstrated we really do have top 5 defenses, and that was a big part of what was going on.

Elliott catches a good bit of blame rightfully

Sep 5, 2021, 11:58 AM

If you know you’re not going to have a ton of time to throw and you can’t run, you can’t have these slow developing routes that don’t utilize the center of the field. Basically every 3rd down last night they were sending at least one if not both inside LB’s on a blitz and there was no plays called to take advantage of that vacated space.

I’m not saying I know more than Elliott but some of these things are a.) lingering problems that have been exposed in the past and b.) not hard to figure out.

If your QB is taking too long to get rid of the ball, give him one read throws on slants to get in a rhythm. DJ didn’t have a good game and the defense was lights out to even give us a shot, but Elliott fell short again when the lights were brightest.

I agree that many of us were wondering why they weren't utilizing the middle of the field more, but then I considered, "Presumably the defense is simply not letting them do that." I wondered if maybe our tight ends just aren't good enough yet to be either really effective blockers or really decent passing threats.

I can't read that grammatically incorrect, incoherent, stream of consciousness rant, so won't.

But on your first sentence. If you've been hearing for years that Elliott needs to be fired, despite the fact that Clemson has had 2 first round QBs, a first round running back, and about 7 NFL wide receivers in that time, maybe there's something to it.

People like you are hilarious!

I’m a very positive person. I’m also a critical thinker and introspective and sometimes we have to look in the mirror. Waving pom-poms doesn’t solve serious problems with coaching nor the OL or the fact that we need to make some changes in our scheme and playcalling.

Clearly you think fans are supposed to act like they’re on some type of drug where all they do is say wonderful positive things. That’s not life. That’s not realistic.

You sound like you’d make a wonderful Stepford husband!

He is right that we very well could have won 6-3 without the pick six. However, we would not have "deserved" to win.

If we end up in the CFP, it will be the greatest coaching effort we have seen thus far with Dabo's administration.
