Electronic tickets

Aug 27, 2021, 11:36 AM

Am I the only one who absolutely hates using my phone for game tickets?

For the first time ever I just had to get an electronic HS football ticket, so I guess that is where we are headed at every level.

I'm a super low-tech guy to start with...but besides that, I hate having to log my CC info with yet another online company (gofan for a HS game in Asheville tonight).

On top of that there's a good chance I'll somehow mess this up and not be allowed in tonight. I never would have made it into the ACCCG the last few years if my boys didn't handle the tickets on their phones for me.

I guess I'm just getting to be an old man already, but I can't be the only one frustrated with this. It's why I haven't gotten tickets to the SC State game yet, which will probably be the only game I can get to this season.

I predict there will be a fee for transferring them and a fee if you dont.

Not just another access point to your credit card. It is 2 more opportunities to illegally acces your personal info.

Never mind the legal data mining and personal data selling.

I just got my Clemson tickets to download. Like everything they send out there are very poor instructions how to download them and use them. I guess they think everyone has done it before rather than showing a step by step process. IPTAY has the most disfunctional website I have ever encountered.

is must have AMAZING nekkid pictures of a WHOLE bunch of folks because there is NO WAY a group of our caliber would have such late 1990's deal driving 50K in season tickets, 30K more in individual ticket sales, and $40mil in donations.

It is one of the most amazing displays of incompetence I have ever seen - involving technology and MOUNTAINS of money.

I was able to figure everything out except one thing about the Mobile Tickets app. There are good instructions and clemsontigers.com/mobiletickets even has a good video with step by step instructions. The one thing that is not mentioned anywhere is how to access the bar codes. I needed them for a couple of tickets I sold on Stub Hub. I called the ticket office and was able to get the answer. If anyone else needs the information, here is how to do it. After accessing the ticket on the app, add the ticket to your wallet, then open the ticket in the wallet and click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen. Once that opens, scroll down to the QR code and bar code is right below the QR code. It's easy, once you know.

Don't use my cell for financial transactions so appears I won't be able to attend any games. Likely wouldn't be able to navigate the process to buy and then present the tickets at the gate. Had season tickets from 1975 thru 2007 and have attended a few games since then till about four years ago. Last time bought tics a hurricane was going to hit the Charlotte area before I could return from the game so had to pass. They were in the same section and parking I previously had.

I got my daughter who is extremely savvy with electronic technology (her job) to help and we were able to do it. Her comment was that she has never seen such a sloppy and incompetent website. I guess they assume that everyone has done it before and doesn't bother to walk you through the instructions. Irritating as he77!

Re: Electronic tickets

Aug 28, 2021, 6:00 PM

Why is this so hard for people?

Log in to your account on the IPTAY site.
Click on “transfer tickets”
Choose which tickets to transfer.
Put in the phone number of the person you want to transfer to.
That’s it.
Seriously.
As straight forward as it can be.

If you can’t figure that out you should probably just get rid of your phone and give up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Only thing wrong with your comment is

Aug 28, 2021, 6:10 PM

that nobody above wanted to transfer tickets. They just couldn't find the barcodes or just didn't want to deal with the technology - transferring them would have been an even bigger problem.

Not a complaint but question...I was able to transfer tickets but downloaded the rest to my Google pay and now need to transfer more. How do you transfer after I downloaded to Google pay? The only option is to remove them. Scared I will loose them if I do that.

Two years ago after downloading I took pictures right before the game because the cell service around the stadium is so bad. I didn’t want to get denied entrance because my cell connection wouldn’t work. At one game I ended up having to use the photos and it worked just fine.

If you have an Iphone, you can move them to "Apple Wallet" after downloading them. That way you're not having to use data to show them when you need to. But taking pics works too.

Sep 17, 2021, 5:29 PM

No problem. As long as they can scan it you can get in.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I got into the SC State game with a pic of the QR code

Sep 17, 2021, 5:34 PM

According to the AD you can’t do that. The readers they use don’t even have to see the code. I just pulled my ticket up and they put the scanner near my phone and it punched the ticket.

I’m surprised they let you do it. They’re not supposed to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure I understand

Sep 17, 2021, 5:43 PM

How is a pic of the QR code different than the original image of the QR code?

I pulled up the image and the scanner read it just fine. The people doing the scanning aren't looking at the file for the QR code, they just use their scanner. Viola!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I'm not sure I understand

Sep 17, 2021, 6:15 PM

Their readers don’t have to scan a code of any kind. I didn’t even have the code showing when they scanned my tickets. It’s an electronic thing. They just put the reader near my phone. Printed codes etc are not supposed to be accepted, per the AD.

I wouldn’t count on being able to get in that way, but who knows. I don’t really care.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No sir. The scanner is reading the QR code on your phone.

Sep 17, 2021, 11:05 PM

I don't understand what you think your phone is emitting to a "reader"?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's called NFC.

Sep 18, 2021, 6:55 AM [ in reply to Re: I'm not sure I understand ]

Near-field communication. It's transmission of a signal between 2 devices very close together. Not all phones have it, including mine, so that's why the QR code is there. They scanned my tix last weekend.

But it does say explicitly on the electronic ticket NOT to print it.

I can confirm a screen shot works just fine. The entry folks can scan the code or the other method is signal based.

I'm not a fan of the electronic tickets either but it seems

Sep 17, 2021, 3:12 AM

to be the way things are going. I liked having some of the paper tickets as a souvenir - my wife would use them in our scrapbooks along with pictures from the game. Kind of hard to do that with E-tickets.

I guess the best part of electronic tickets is that it stops a lot of the counterfeit scalping while making it fast to transfer tickets to others (don't have to put paper tickets in the snail mail and hope they arrive in time). Now if they could only figure out how we can send our parking passes over email...

I don't have any CC information loaded on my iPhone and try to avoid any financial transactions using a CC (last minute Hotel would be the exception but the CC# is not saved). My G mail has been hacked before, and my CC card has been skimmed about 5-6 times via internet transactions or normal retail transactions. I have multiple investment accounts - none are listed or linked to my cell phone. Could I learn the steps of safely purchasing or transferring E tickets? Sure. Is it worth the effort when you combine it with all the other obstacles like parking etc. No. I know a couple older guys who only want flip phones but wanted to see the Tigers (maybe once or twice per year). They gave up. I guess the net positive outweighs the negatives but it did cut off small group of older fans. I still go some with a buddy that has the tickets loaded on his phone. Go Tigers.

Re: Electronic tickets

All you have to do is log in to your IPTAY account. You transfer or download from there. You can even sell from there if you’d like to. You can do this from your computer or your phone.

To transfer you just need the phone number of the person you want to give the tickets to.

If you must have a paper ticket you have to go to the IPTAY office before the game.

If you can’t log in to your account I don’t know what to tell you.
