Big money would destroy college football but many of you disagreed. And if we allowed players to earn money playing college football will eventually have a lot of negative affects on college football. Do you believe me now.??

I have to admit I did not see the storm of 2021 that hit Clemson. Losing BV, TE and other staff staff members. The most damaging part of the storm is NlL and the transfer portal.

I still believe in Clemson, Dabo and his staff and I am still “ All In “. When you have to compete against coaches like Saban, Ryan Day, Kirby Smart, Brian Kelly and Jim Harbaugh who bend or break the rules make it harder for HC’s like Dabo Sweeney, Tony Elliot, BV’s and other coaches who are going to do things the right way. Dirty recruiting and sliding player’s money etc… from some programs is being done out in the open right under the nose of the NCAA who has lost control of college sports. I wonder if the NCAA will even exist in 5 years. They are not worth much now.

IMO the right way may eventually win out. But it may take years to recover from this storm and chaos of 2021.

The covid pandemic and outside forces targeting Clemson has slowed Dabo's program down but he will get Clemson back to the top unless he decides college football is broken and can’t be fixed then he may get out of sports all together.

As far as the players who de committed from Clemson days before the signing period will get their karma. They knew Clemson held those spots for them but waited until the last minute to back out of their commitment leaving Clemson scrambling. Look at the schools they signed with Bama, Ga., and Michigan. 3 HC’s with questionable ethic. Their is something suspicious about how all that happened. 3 hard commits for from IMG backing out on Clemson within days of each other.

Going forward IMO it’s going to be all about the money with parents leading the way. It’s a real sad day for college football.

Very true post. This is the demise of the game and eventually every booster, alum, fan will get fed up and quit donating, buying tix, etc. They get a free scholarship, food, clothes, rent, etc. and still bit$h about everything. Stadium’s will be less than 50% full in a few years to come and they will be wondering why?!?!

Replay Man you nailed it. For my daughter and I to attend a game it cost me about $300 and I am not one of the fans who have 5 star tailgate set ups.

And the announcers for most games are average at best. I don’t think we will see another Jim Philips, Bob Fulton, Larry Munson and Jack Buck and some of the other greats from the 70’s and 80’s. ESPN was a great sports channel when Chris Bergman had the card board back ground. All he did was report the sports. Now announcers and radio host can get coaches fired. TV money is so much a part of the game they control college football.

It’s so true money $$$$ is the root of all evil.

Absolutely! It is the *love* of money that is the root of all kinds of evil, not the money itself.

espn does not

Care in the long run about attendance in general. They have thrown their cash behind the sec programs plus ok and tx.

Programming is the name of the game. Butts in seats are not the end all. Hence their collusion with the sec to expand playoffs (which I have no problem with) BEFORE their current contract expires.

Follow the money.

Dabo will be the strongest swimmer doing it the right way

Dec 16, 2021, 6:00 AM

Dabo is the best coach in college football but, he’s human and not perfect like the rest of us, overall when you consider culture, planning, graduating, love, family values, ticket sells, fan appeal, winning, recruiting and development he will always be a winner working to improve all the time. He’s a solutions guy who constantly evaluating his team, life, production and challenging his coaches, players, staff to bring their level of performance to new heights.

As long as Dabo has a passion for giving back through football and building into others lives through the Christ in him we will be a consistent factor in college football but the game itself is suffering from the NIL that needs to defined to a point where a team is flashing Money to come play for them and the transfer portal rules needs to be limited to a certain period of the year, maybe February- May.

The next thing is regular students are going to be pushing that they should have the same right to transfer out to another school with the same grade standards athletics has. They have opened Pandora’s box so to speak.

It’s going to lead to fans being less engaged and loyal the way players are and the student athletes are going to suffer especially in other sports with money.

I’ve always been a Clemson fan and will alway pull for the Tigers but my priorities are God, Family, friends, interests and then the Tigers. Keeping things in perspective helps, I hope that college football will continue to be an enjoyable experience for all the fans because it promotes so many life lessons, the schools and everyone seeking to get a great education.

Dabo will be in the CFP in 2021

Dec 16, 2021, 6:29 AM

Dabo will win the Natty in 2022 if he gets the QB to play at a high level.

Clemson would be 13-0 and UGA would be 12-2 if TL16 was still at Clemson. Clemson would be the #1 seed in the CFP with TL16 right now.

My point is that this storm you speak of is all centered around a QB that hasn’t played at a high level (to date)

In fairness...

when major staff changes occur, you really can't blame recruits for rethinking their commitments.

That said, two of the recruits you mentioned were still taking visits to other schools even after they committed to Clemson so apparently neither of them were ever really "all in". Frankly, that's on Dabo for continuing to hold their spots.

Sometimes trying to do things the right way will come back to bite you which was the case here.

It may come back to bite you but doing it the right way will eventually win out over all. When I look at the current 2021 signee’s, I see young men who wanted to come to Clemson for all the right reasons. They have never wavered in their commitment and will turn out to be stars on and off the field. These players will ultimately lead to Clemson’s success. And the coaches on the staff who remained at Clemson, they TOO wild continue to lead to the Tigers success on and off the field.

Then when I read the statement from Goodwin who waited patiently at Clemson and apparently not jumping to leave for any job (schools) that came calling, I know Dabo made the RIGHT CHOICE in Goodwin. He stated that learned a lot from Steele and Brent. I can see he has a lot of the same fire for the game as BV had. And with everything being said and done, Clemson will be fine due to all of the right reasons.

GO TIGERS AND FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!!!!!

Just like college sports was ruined when

Dec 16, 2021, 8:55 AM

we relaxed the rules on how much (and what) a college could feed an athlete. Remember the cream cheese argument? Multiple donuts? The doom-sayers were just as adamant back then that The End Is Near. [Insert ominous music.]

This is professional sports in every way, EXCEPT when it comes to the athlete — you know, the people on the field providing the entertainment.

Millions to coaches, hundreds of millions to facilities, God only knows how many billions in total revenue to license logos and such, and it’s ALL due to the performance of the athletes, who in the view of some people should be limited in what they can get for their labor.

Yes, labor. That’s what it is. That’s ALL it is.

And on a related note, no one drives hundreds of miles, gets hotel rooms, and tailgates outside on graduation day to see the “student” athletes walk by with their commencement gowns on.

This is professional entertainment. Players deserve every penny they can get.

And it has been going on forever, everywhere, every school, every program. Now it’s just in the open.

Deal with it or find something else to entertain you.
