Let's talk RB Recruiting
Jul 2, 2012, 11:43 AM

|
So as it stands now, we're only signing 1 more for this class and are already full for 2014.
Everything I am seeing says that we are in great position for Green, Dye, and even Kamara. All of which are takes on the spot, but all of which won't be deciding until after the fall.
From everything I'm seeing, Peyton Barber also has a commitable offer, which kind of confuses me. Given the 4 we have out there, few would argue that he isn't a distant 4th. We seem to be in GREAT shape with the other 3. I don't think there is any way we would miss on all 3, given Dabo's history and our 2013 depth chart.
What I'm getting at is, is anyone else worried Barber decides to commit soon, and we are all full for 3 of the best backs in this class? It would be the smart thing for Barber to do, if he really wants to come to Clemson. This would be a HUGE mistake, IMO, and really has me worried on how this plays out.
Thoughts?

I really don't like to agree with you on this because I am sure Barber is a great young man, but we need an immediate impact type back in this class. I really want Green and feel like we are in a great position with him, but I don't see him committing first out of this group. I honestly don't know how to handle the situation but I trust Dabo going forward.

Don't think we will push for Barber's commitment

any time soon. Green, Kamara, and Dye are all elite backs and coveted by every team in the country. Good problem to have.

Good problem to have, as long as you don't have to say "thanks, but no thanks, we're already full."
According to our coaching staff, that is exactly what we would be doing if Barber decided to commit today. None of the top 3 on our board are in any hurry to commit. Barber's top 3 (and best outstanding offers) are Clemson, GT, and Arizona State.
Comparing programs, and even adding in our current depthchart, it is just PAINFULLY obvious who the biggest and best option is for Barber. I just don't see how he wouldn't pull the trigger and commit very soon, knowing the bigger fish we have out there.
I really hope I am wrong. I just wouldn't be shedding any tears if he came out and commited to some other school.

we panic and take someone we don't need. Why do I say that? I honestly think if we just take Gallman we are ok with 2 coming in 2014. And the 2nd for 2013 should be a laser target not just a warm body.

for this class it'd be awesome to get any of the guys we're after now. Green would be the 1st choice obviously, but the guys other than him (plus Mizell too) would all be big pick ups at the position. I feel like we might have the best shot with Dye but I don't have anything to back that up.

I think we'd oversign for Green, Dye, or Kamara

But you're right, we are in a sticky situation with Barber now.
Gallam should be a beast though, so I'm already happy abt our RB class.

If we did that, we'd be going back on our word to Gallman that we'd only sign 2 backs this class. Don't think we want to start backtracking on our promises with the Grayson trio.
I agree that all 3 are oversign-worthy, but don't think our coaching staff is on the same page with that. This is what has me extremely worried.

Agree with you 100%. We should be extremely selective, and make Barber's offer "non-commitable," at least at this point.
Don't think that's in the plans though. But there is no doubt in my mind that this is what we SHOULD do! Worst case scenario, you offer Barber a "commitable" offer in January after we missed on the others. If his feelings got hurt, we only take 1 back this class and add another STUD for 2014.

It isn't like we have to have more than one this year. We have Howard and whats his name Buice I think. But the Bellamy situation put us between a rock and a hard spot. And the what if's, what if Gallman didn't pan out for any reason. We would be in big doodooo!!!

You're an idiot. You should at least learn the depthchart before you start posting like you know what's going on. This is a big boy discussion, for people that actually keep up with recruiting. Move along.

which I think is very possible, then we may not need another RB right now, especially with Ogelsby already for '14. Brooks is coming in too. Howard is back behind AE.
I just still think if we had a chance to sign a derrick green then you almost have to do that, then take no more backs for a long while. I don't know, sticky situation.

no worries if barber commits. the only worry is for him actually. if he wants to come to CU and one of the other guys commits first then he would be on the outside looking in. but not the other guys.

We are taken 3 rb this year if we can. Next year we only have 2 coming back. You need more than 4 on the team.

Was that before Bellamy was dismissed? If so, taking a 3rd RB would be as if he stayed.

Tru tiger, penthouse and others you are all wrong, we will take 3 rb if they are top rated guys! Look at this:
“I like Clemson. I like that it’s a small town, like where I’m from. I like that it’s close to home,” Dye told CUTigers recently. “I like the coaches. The coaches are pretty cool and they’re straight forward with me. They went over everything and let me know how it is.
“They told me I was the guy that they want, but if it comes down to it, if they can get somebody they’re recruiting, they won’t turn him down.”

I read that quote as: we told him we want him, but if somebody else we're recruiting commits first, then we're taking them and not Dye.
I believe we might take 3 because of the Bellamy loss but the total scholarship numbers work better for us to take 2

Also, as of today, our Rivals insiders still say that we are only signing one more RB for 2013. I tend to believe them over what some recruit has to say. Especially since I can pull an article with Green saying the exact opposite thing of what you have Dye as being qouted saying....
I truely believe we are done after the next RB commits.

If Barber or Marzell commit in July you take it. If for some reason they can't make it at rb, they could probably switch to another position on offense or defense.

Lol at whoever's going through and thumbs downing all my posts. Get a life.
If you don't keep up with recruiting and all this is over your head, simply leave the thread.
Lots of bad information in this thread. Go back and read the original post. According to OUR COACHING STAFF, we will not be signing more than 1 more RB. PERIOD, end of discussion. So for everyone saying we would oversign for Dye, Green, or Kamara, it's not going to happen unless the thinking drastically changes within our staff.
This is the point of the thread. If we had more than 1 RB spot available, this wouldn't even be a thread!

Don't we also have a verbal from Dalvin Cook for 2014? If we have Gallman, Cook, Oglesby, Howard, and Dye or Green (plus Brooks) we will be loaded. Someone will be changing position IMO.

Yes we do. We are done for 2014 as well. With only 1 spot left for the next 2 years, we must maximize it! I would be happy with AK, Green, or Dye. Just want 1 of the 3, and not Barber. He should be a backup plan, IMO, not have a commitable offer.
Nothing against Barber, btw. We are just in a great position that allows us to be picky.

in 2013 the depth chart is Howard, Gallman, and Brooks (maybe also Hot Rod?)
You have to add Dye, Green, or Kamara (preferably Green) for depth reasons.
In 2014 you very well may see a position change, but I think you're more likely to see Cook or Oglesby take a RS, and with Howard as a SR that year, everybody stays where they are.
