Navy is not a viable option for ACC expansion. Here’s why.

Jul 24, 2021, 11:17 AM

All cadets owe the Navy five years of active duty upon graduation. That is a deal breaker for any athlete who has NFL or NBA aspirations.

Don’t get me wrong, Navy is a great school. They have amazing traditions. I respect them a ton. But there is no way they can recruit ACC caliber athletes and be competitive. They aren’t really that competitive in their current conference, which is very inferior to the ACC.

And no, the ACC isn’t going to take Navy just because Notre Dame plays them.

They would probably still not be the worst in the ACC. They did well in the American Conference a couple years ago going 11-2. They would be competitive at times. I think they would be middle of the road. Do they draw a large TV audience though?

Navy draws a worldwide audience

Not being sarcastic but really ? The only time I ever leave a game on involving Navy is one time a year no matter who they are playing … I def get service members around the world who tune in but how many or what is the percentage that actually do bc I just don’t feel like navy football would bring anything at all to the ACC lol

What is BS… please elaborate?? My comments? Bc I’m sorry if you took it as any disrespect which is completely ignorant if you did bc I promise you I love service academies and our service men and women more than anyone … but navy athletics !? Gtfo man seriously nobody cares about navy football just facts, they do absolutely nothing for the conference besides add another cup cake game lol

Your insinuation that Navy is the Dallas (longtime nfl ratings winner)Cowboys of CFB-)

Yea I think we are mixed up on who we are replying to haha bc I agree with the bs comment (read my reply) if it’s directed at the “worldwide comment” my mistake !

You probably need to check the subject line before posting too. The poster says that he/she does not know about the number of eyeballs. Personally, I only see a handful of teams worth expansion and Navy definitely isn't one of them, but the poster is correct that Navy GEOGRAPHICALLY is a worldwide brand.

Can’t tell of the cellular device but could be your comment was in reference to the worldwide audience comment … if so apologies ahead of time can’t tell if it was directed at that one or mine haha

Sure, but you are thinking about current state. With NIL things are going to change and Navy may be forced to change or drop football or be relegated to irrelevance. They may decide it’s worth it to change...

Kids that go to a service academy aren’t going to care about that. It’s not about the money for those kids. They aren’t trying to make it to the NFL. These are kids that want to be in the military.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How about service academies’ athletics are sub-par

Jul 24, 2021, 12:48 PM

At least we’d have a guaranteed win in basketball. We could really use that in conference

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because they suck.

Jul 24, 2021, 5:13 PM

Why would anybody want them in the conference, I cannot fathom.

I repeat, they will not be in the ACC because they suck.

But they would bring nothing of value in the other sports at all.

That reason and the fact that Clemson doesn't need to be in a conference with yet another mid-major football program. For the love of God Clemson must use this as an opportunity to get the hell out of the ACC. That is my hope. They ditch the conference and tank it as repayment for the extra probation that they tacked on in the 80's. We get the last laugh!!

When Army or Navy athletes are good enough to go pro, aren't

Jul 24, 2021, 11:13 PM

they usually given a deferral of their service commitment until after their pro career is over?
