Does Blossingame stay or go? I'd love to

Apr 25, 2016, 9:49 AM

See one of these guys just stay for their last year and get us over the hump.

It seems like we always lose our one star player early. I remember when Will Solomon left after his junior year, then Mays, then our guy two years ago...

I guess you can't blame them but...

Yeah he's gone. Why would you come back? Wouldn't you leave too?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Leaving early for NFL and NBA are 2 separate ideas. So

Apr 25, 2016, 1:44 PM

would I go if I were him? Probably not. Top 15 pick, yes.. anything after is a toss up. So I'd work hard another year, get my degree, and know I'm giving it my best shot but have a degree in my back pocket.
So that's why I would stay. The injury argument? Get insurance.. lots of guys doing that anymore.

He can get the degree anytime.***

Sounds like he's feeling a tremendous amount of pressure.

Looks like he's working hard on his game. https://twitter.com/JaronBgame?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

Apr 25, 2016, 2:23 PM

which is not unlike a lot of people.

"Take the money and run!" Wow, what a pathetically sad mantra for people to live by.

Let's see now, just how did that work out for Tay Bryant? KJ McD? Skip Wise? And those are just the cases from Clemson. We could go on and on about NBA players making gargantuan sums of money and with no idea how to protect their investment, lengthen their career, and plan for a complete life. And how many of those players are now broke and with no discernible way of making a decent living?

We could also go on and on about very good college (or high school!) players over the years jumping to the NBA, only to be drummed out of the league after 2 to 3 desultory seasons on the bench in Memphis or Utah...

This kid isn't ready for the NBA, and it's the pimps of society whispering sweet $$$ in his ear that are causing him to feel pressure.

The most laughable thing of all is those that say he can't get better in college, that he has nothing left to prove. Right. WTPH?!

So that means JB is as good as Magic Johnson was coming out of college, or Michael Jordan, or Allen Iverson, or Isaiah Thomas, or any number of prescient talents who actually transcended the college game.

What a flippin' joke this is....

if you knew anything about basketball or actually cared anything at all about this kid, you wouldn't write the crap you do.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who are you talking to?

Apr 25, 2016, 7:08 PM

The guy is obviously feeling a lot of pressure. There is absolutely no denying that.

You are living in some alternate universe.

going to selfishly stay another year even though the family wants some money.

Probably doesn't mean it like that, but one can dream.

I ma beginning to think he might come back. I have not seen him listed in the first two rounds of a couple of mock drafts. He might improve his stock at the combine. Sure hope he returns, but just hope he makes the right decision.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It all comes down to the combine.***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty much the same sentiments ....

Apr 25, 2016, 10:34 AM

As fans, we never have the full story on a players personal situation that drives the decision to leave early for the pros. I'll never fault or criticize a players decision.

As a fan, I kind of wish they would all come back because any player considering going pro would likely help Clemson.

SMH at some fans who think that they KNOW what is best ...

Tough call

Apr 25, 2016, 1:32 PM

He is has a few black marks against him for turning pro: size is not ideal as he is a #2 guard in NBA but is not strong enough off the dribble and his shooting is not quite there yet. He is undersized for a SF but this is where I think he could fill a role.

Another year would really help him BUT this draft is (supposedly) much weaker than next year's class.

I do like his defense, hustle, intangibles though, even more so than KJ.

With only two rounds in the NBA draft, I think it is a really tough position for him. I want him to make the best decision for him and frankly, think BB is very good at helping players assess this fairly and rationally.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgtbn_110.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Keep in mind that the NBA is not his only option.

Apr 25, 2016, 1:37 PM

He can make plenty of money playing overseas.

Best analysis that I have seen is this link - scroll or search for Jaron

April 19th - David Aldridge listed him as 6th best small forward and second round pick
David Aldridge's Big Board 2016: Small Forwards
RANK | NAME | SCHOOL/TEAM | CLASS/AGE | HT | WT > PROJECTED
1. Brandon Ingram | Duke | Freshman | 6-9 | 190 | High Lottery
2. Jaylen Brown | California | Freshman | 6-7 | 225 | Mid Lottery
3. Taurean Prince | Baylor | Senior | 6-8 | 220 | Mid-Late First
4. DeAndre Bembry | St. Joseph's | Junior | 6-6 | 210 | Late 1st/Early 2nd
5. Paul Zipser | Bayern Munich | 22 | 6-8 | 209 | Second Round
6. Jaron Blossomgame | Clemson | Junior | 6-7 | 220 | Second Round
http://www.nba.com/news/features/david_aldridge/david-aldridge-big-board-small-forwards-2016-nba-draft/

I think Jaraon would benefit from staying and playing at a high level again, but he may not improve his draft stock. He may always be seen as second rounder and only if he plays much better next year could he see comments as a late first rounder.

He may be looking at which teams might be picking in mid 40s to high 40s this year to see what team and culture he could go to.

He has until May 25th to decide and the combine May 11-15 is the crux of everything.

Jaron knows what he has to work on as well:
Blossomgame talked about his game and decision to Brandon Rink of the Independent Mail:
"I just want to be most prepared as possible. There’s things I need to work on: my ball-handling, perimeter skills – that’s the main question marks people have. Can I defend the 3? Can I play on the perimeter and make decisions out of a ball screen and also can I shoot the ball from the NBA 3-point line at a high percentage?"

Right now, news and posts do not have Jaron listed highly. He is about to change all that, so we will see how high and what eyes he opens.

"He's a second-round sleeper if he chooses to stay in the 2016 draft."

Mock Draft March 16th - chosen 47th by Chicago Bulls: Jaron Blossomgame

Listing him as 74th best prospect and sees him as 32nd pick in 2017 draft

His competition appears to be tough:
"At last glance, eight ACC players were dipping their toes in the NBA pool, their lack of affiliation with agents affording a chance to return to college before May 25: N.C. State’s Abdul-Malik Abu, Notre Dame’s Victor Eric (V.J.) Beachem, Clemson’s Jaron Blossomgame, North Carolina’s Justin Jackson and Kennedy Meeks, Louisville’s Chinanu Onuaku, Florida State’s Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Syracuse’s Malachi Richardson.
Meanwhile, four ACC players already declared for the NBA draft and signed with agents – juniors Cat Barber of N.C. State and Demetrius Jackson of Notre Dame, and freshmen Brandon Ingram of Duke and Florida State’s Malik Beasley.
