DJU's running ability looks vastly improved

...and the best part is, it's not because he has to. I did notice him making some nice cuts & acceleration. Bet he breaks off a long one at some point this year.

If you compare last year to this year... Yes, unless you're totally blind.

Absolutely, it's significantly better.

He's never going to be a Woody Dantzler type runner, or even a Deshaun Watson type runner. But I think his running now is comparable to Tajh Boyd's, and Tajh was able to help us with his running on occasion.

I think Tajh loved contact. DJ definitely did not last year. I think he's learning to love it as he becomes more successful.

used in place of a short yardage back. He was the short yardage sledgehammer. He only averaged 2.8ypc his JR year and 2.6 YPC his SR year though. Unfortunately sack yardage gets deducted from QB rushing yardage in college so its difficult to really compare, but DJ actually averaged 2.9 YPC last year despite him being hobbled and slow and taking a lot of sacks. Through 3 games this year he's averaging 4.3 YPC, admittedly against poor competition.

Judge, are you talking about the Tajh Boyd who rushed for 1200 yds in his career?

I agree. His decisiveness is much better. He’s getting a faster start when he commits, and makes maybe one move then focuses on getting yardage.
He’s never going to be a Deshaun or Trevor is this part of his game, but he doesn’t need to be. He just needs to establish himself as a credible threat to get a first down. In my view he’s done that thus far this season.

Those appeared as read option plays when...

in reality they were called as QB draws and just plain 'you carry the ball,' plays. It looked to me like he actually scrambled a few times and one or two of them he gained good ground. Imo, that's playcalling and excellent of our playcallers to guess which way the defense will go. DJ didn't seem to check down out of a play many times.
Some mules need blinders to keep them on row.

La Tech gave up 323 yards rushing to a bad Missouri team.

Their QB had 7 rushes for 61 yards. Stephen F. Austin ran for 4 yards per carry against them. They just aren't a good defense against the run.
Against a bad GT team, he ran 13 times for 16 yards.
DJ is slightly better running the ball. Let's see what happens against a defense with a pulse.

I'm not sure what all the fuse is about. We have offensive problems, but they don't start or end with him.

Not saying it's better or worse, am saying I wouldn't want to stick my hat in there and try to bring him down.

Would agree. Last year he moved like a kid’s erector set come to life, but glad to see the work he’s put in show up on the field. He seems to get better in all aspects with each game, and I’m looking forward to seeing him against the next level of competition we’ll have for the upcoming games.

I agree in these last 2 games. Wondering if anyone else had noticed.
