DJ under center

Mar 8, 2022, 12:06 PM

Heard DJ is taking a lot of snaps from under center and looking good. Has anyone heard about a change for this? Seems we always snap from shotgun and usually a QB can get better reads from shotgun vs taking drop backs from under center.

Maybe it’s Streeter working past the poor reads we’ve seen out of the read option. I wondered if this will open up more traditional play action with our RB’s.

Hallelujah! It's about time we stopped self-eliminating a whole facet of offensive football.

QB under center is a more advantageous for running the ball and permits quicker hitting plays with running backs moving towards the LOS on the snap rather than having to wait for the ball to get back to the QB and him to hand it off (or line up at 6-7yds behind the LOS to get the ball at 5yrds). You can run any play from under center and all kinds of backfield action, but not necessarily the other way around. A QB under center is ALWAYS a threat for a sneak on any down on any yard line (as is a quick 0 dive with a back). You can start in the shotgun and shift to under center on any play and still run it. Or simply line up that way. More for the defense to think about.

Shotgun give better pre-snap visibility to the QB.

We hamstring ourselves and make it so much easier for the defense to game plan and limit our ability to take advantage of what the defense is doing when we choose to never have going under center as a viable option. IMHO.

When I looked a couple years back the most shotgun-happy NFL team still ran 20%ish plays from under center. And in general while under center plays were more likely to be runs, they also had a high percentage (majority?) of BIG passing plays from that look.

Hopefully the drop in weight will help his feet with better mechanics for drop backs. He was slow moving last season

We literally won two national championships doing the complete opposite of what you have suggested.

Truth is we recruited and signed a QB who didn’t particularly fit our offensive philosophy…Any team running the pro-style offense under center is ancient and will be watching from
The couch doing the playoffs.

( Just my opinion) Ever notice DJ's moves from the shotgun. He doesn't. He plants his feet, surveys the field, surveys it again and then takes 2 steps forward into a collapsing pocket.
When you consider his completion % this past season, Maybe he needs to take the snap under center, and drop back.

We’re gonna need a center though. I was hoping Bresee’s high school teammate would develop a little quicker.

What DJ needs to be working on is avoiding pressure to extend plays. In most cases it's 1 step left, right, or up, giving your lineman an advantage or a lane to escape. That's really what Deshaun and Trevor were so good at.

Better reads and more time before pressure.

Not true. A QB cannot read anything while he is trying to catch a snap from center.

The most idiotic comment I’ve read on here today…and it’s only 7 am

https://youtu.be/3ZhYjN0jBhc

Go to the 13:35 minute mark…Watch TL run through his progressions while buying himself a throwing lane with incredible footwork. He has Powell wide open across the middle on a crossing route and has Tee wide open on a flag route for an easy TD…he chose to hit Rodgers on an out route route for a huge game.

This is text book play for a QB passing the ball playing in an RPO system.
