College players tend to be better than high school players. Some of the best high school players don't pan out at the college level (see Demetris Summers, Willy Korn, Tavien Feaster, et al).

I don't think it is any one thing; I think it is a multitude of things. First, what is clear is that DJ has lost confidence and needs to find a way to get that back which means having some success that is sustainable. Second, the OL and WRs have to step up their games as well. They have let him down on a number of occasions and also seem to lack confidence, both in him and in themselves. Third, the coaches have let him down. I think they are too much in his ear and have not helped him get into a rhythm early in the game with the play calling. Last, injuries are starting to mount which are hard to control.
I was watching Bryce Young and what Alabama did against Ole Miss this weekend. Early in the game, they run a lot of over-the-middle crosses and short outs and screens. These are easy throws, don't require the OL to hold their blocks for too long, and give both the QB and the WRs/RBs a chance to get in a rhythm and on the same page. It is kind of like basketball shooting where you see a few easy ones go in and then the hard shots don't seem that difficult. You have confidence and rhythm in your stroke. The same principle applies here.
I'm no coach but I do think there are a number of things our coaches could do to help this kid. I really want to see him succeed but he needs to be put in the right position to do so. Hopefully, the bye week will help get some people healed up and get a better plan for the second half of the season.

Right now, there is no easy throw for DJ

His accuracy is not good and it's hard to build confidence when he struggles to complete 5-10 yard passes. Sometimes I wonder if the UGA interception haunts him when throwing short.
Like I said before, it's going to take an offseason of hard work to get him to an acceptable D1 level. Even that may not be enough.
For this season, scoring points is going to be a major struggle with him at QB. All defenses need to do is keep everything in front of them because DJ's arm can't lead the offense on long extended drives. It's big play or bust.

I agree. However, what is odd is that he was very accurate in HS and he was accurate last year, so what happened over this past off-season and so far this season? It just feels like many things have worked against him that are contributing to the inaccuracy and we probably have to look at a number of areas to help him address it. The only thing I know is that if you look at the games he played in last year, they were later in the season, the talent around him was better (Senior OL, good receivers, and RB) and they were much more polished and in rhythm at that point in the season with twice as many games under their belt as they have now. None of this has been the case so far this season and I think that has contributed significantly to the problems and now injuries and transfers mount up as well.
I agree with you that there is a lot of hard work ahead to get where we need to be.

I think you hit the nail on the head. We have to get him comfortable. We have to make things easier for him. Then progress into harder things. Granted yes he SHOULD be comfortable after a full offseason and camp but sometimes it takes time. But we see he isn’t so let’s ease him into it. With easier throws. It would be great if we could run the ball but that’s a work in progress as well.
