DJ and finding open receivers .......

Is that as big or bigger problem than receivers not getting open? Not that our WRs have performed well, but how often has he thrown to a covered receiver and not seen the better option. I don't know ...... just asking.
Tahj Boyd was a great talent and outstanding QB, for us, but his downfall in making a NFL roster (supposedly) was not being able to read defenses. If that keeps you out of the pros, then DJ won't have a chance ........ regardless of physical ability ........ or, does he just need coaching?

Isn’t Tajh now on staff? May explain some of that (tho that is not my recollection of the TB experience. With great receivers, he actually WAS a very good QB and leader for us EXCEPT that he apparently was intimidated by Clowney or other #####, because he was routinely bad in that game. Did not watch the video posted last week to hear what he had to say at Chicken Burn, but thought HE was probably not one to have comment on USC since they dominated him. Just dawns on me that HE may be the reason we finally lost again Saturday?

Failures in the passing game accumulate disproportionately when there are multiple failure components.
If 2 WRs can't get open but 2 do get open, then it is reasonably likely that a QB will find one of the open WRs. This doesn't assure that QB will find one of the 2 open WRs, but it helps.
If 3 WRs can't get open and 1 does, then then it is less likely that a QB will find the 1 that's open. QB may still find the open WR, but it's harder in this situation.
If a WR runs the wrong route, then the QB might try to 'throw him open' ... but when the WR goes in the wrong direction instead of staying true to his designed route, then incompletions or interceptions are the outcome.
(*) Clemson's WRs are not good enough (as an overall unit) with either getting open or in running their routes properly.
This is a recipe for poor performance in the passing game, as you have all witnessed the past 2 seasons.
+++++++++++++++++
If the QB struggles to read defenses, then an apparent open receiver is not actually open (see Rattler's pik-6 and DJU's early Q1 pass that should have been a pik-6, except that the S.Carolina DB dropped the ball).
DJU is better than last year (last year was dreadful) as far as recognizing defenses, but he's still got a lot of work to do.

"If the QB struggles to read defenses, then an apparent open receiver is not actually open (see Rattler's pik-6 and DJU's early Q1 pass that should have been a pik-6, except that the S.Carolina DB dropped the ball)."
- the receivers ran into each other on the crossing route, DJ threw the right ball, the crossing receiver would have been there if they had not collided.
"DJU is better than last year (last year was dreadful) as far as recognizing defenses, but he's still got a lot of work to do"
- agree, the question is does Clemson have the patience or the will to have that one more year or do we truly open up the competition now that Cade has his year in the barrel.

QB should be able to do multiple things...find an open space and throw the ball to it teaching your WR's to look for opening when scrambling (A&M QB several years ago)...throwing a WR open, looking at where your WR is heading and laying a ball in the open space he's heading for... then when someone is wide open have the ability to hit them with a pass...DJ can do the last one sometimes but mostly miss wide open receivers or throw the ball so hard and off target that nobody including the defense has a chance to catch it! QB should be able to make his WR's look good...can any of you honestly say DJ does this on a regular basis!

Great points. We hardly play anyone, including FCS teams, like Furman, that don't have competent QB's that can find open receivers (at least when they play us). They also have at least one or two receivers that get open on a regular basis ...... like the white dude with average speed for Furman that caught 13 balls against us. These, I guess are maybe 2 start players with no FBS offers. Same goes with punters...... everybody seems to have a good one except us. Why!
