You're likely right....but....so much new information will come out in the public hearings that a lot of the Reps are going to be hard pressed to play party over country.
It will be interesting to watch. When the Reps held on to Nixon so long, when he finally resigned, the Reps lost 40 house seats and 4 senate seats.
The tipping point will be the individual ambition of each Senator rather than the country. I wish it weren't so, but it appears to be.

Me and millions of others were willing to give him a fair shake from day 1. There were some instances early when I thought he’d be okay, then he just proved over and over that he’s a scumbag and an embarrassment to anyone who holds high ideals for the office.

There is only one flaw in your theory my friend. Trump has brought all of this on himself. From paying of pron stars (violation of fed election laws), paying off playboy bunnies, to repeating demonstrable lies over and over and over. He is insulting, crude, dishonest and corrupt. 10 days before he was to meet the President of China for the 1st time to begin negotiating trade deals, his daughter was awarded very hard to get Chinese Trademarks....worth millions.
The list is simply too long. He said himself that he never apologizes and has never asked God for forgiveness for anything. He bragged about his adultery for years and his big claim to fame is he's been a reality tv star.
The idea that people have despised poor innocent Donald because Hillary lost was merely spin in order to destract away from the obvious. He's terrible at his job. You like the economy? I do too. And I thank Mitch McConnell for it, remember, Trump said he'd sign anything they put on his desk. He's authored no legislation on his own.....none. And frankly, has played more golf than any president in living memory. He lied about Obama being born in Kenya...he's lied and lied and lied. And now, he's stuck a knife in our finest allies in the ugly middle east when it comes to combat. It's just wrong. And the idea that Trump has twin towers in Istanbul has nothing to do with it.
Now, the Lt. Colonel who was one of those listening in on the Ukraine call swore under oath that the transcript was incorrect.
I'm a liberal, I haven't like conservative Presidents for a long time. But this isn't conserv vs lib or Dem vs Rep......this man is mentally ill and he needs to go. INHO

Using corporate funds to reimburse Michael Cohen for paying Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their sex is a violation of federal campaign finance law. A.) Corporations cannot make direcct campaign donations and B.) By shielding the "campaign contribution' (payoff) through a 3rd party is conspiracy to violate federal campaign laws.
