Direction of our offense

Jul 10, 2017, 11:27 PM

First time poster, long time reader, but I want to say how much I have enjoyed reading some of you long time members thoughts and opinions. That being said, how do you feel about the future of our offense under Trevor Lawrence? Obviously the kid is an absolute stud and can straight up spin it with the best of them. I re-watched the nat'l championship game again this past weekend and some of the plays DW made with his feet were just truly amazing. Whether it was escaping pressure, resetting the pocket, extending plays, or a designed QB power/zone... I don't know if we win that game if DW had the speed/feet of say someone like Cullen Harper or Schuessler. We ran Deshaun 8 or so times against bama and I don't think that's something we will do in the future with Lawrence. Obviously you would call different plays that benefit your QBs strengths, but how much do you think our offense changes under TL? I am no expert by any means and have 100% trust in the staff, but just thought I'd see what you guys opinions were. I have watched film of Lawrence but haven't really seen him run much. He is no question an elite passer, but how is he when it comes to running the football and how much better of a passer do you think he will be than DW? To hell with the gamecocks and thanks in advance.

He won't need to run much but he's not a bad runner and always goes down leaning forward with his tall frame but his running ability is better than most think from the plays I've seen him run the ball.

That's good to hear. In my opinion of today's college game, it's almost become a necessity to have that 3rd dimension in your offense (QB ability to run) to go with your passing and running game. When you have someone like Deshaun that can really throw it, make smart decisions, extend plays, and double as a RB for a few plays per game... you're gonna win way more than you lose.

From what I've seen, he has great elusiveness and surprising speed for his tall frame. We'll cross that bridge when we get there. The best is yet to come...
