Did Covid hurt this team that much?

Oct 25, 2021, 3:58 PM

I don't know I'm just trying to figure out how you fall this far this fast. Don't get me wrong in no way do I believe this is it for Clemson but it seem unfathomable that even this year it is this bad. Did Covid really effect this teams offense to truly develop depth on offense? Idk but this team is fragile, are they going to finish or are they going to give up. Clemson still has a chance at keeping their 10+ win season streak alive but let's face it if the offense doesn't even figure it out half way that streak will definitely be broke.

I don't know if it hurt Clemson, but it helped other teams like Pitt and Wake. They have a ton of experienced players this year because of the free Covid redshirt.

I don't think that Covid is the problem. I think what we have is a QB who doesn't trust his O-line and he's playing scared. When he drops back, he's not reading the secondary and his receivers and going through his progressions - he's afraid to take his eyes off the defensive pressure coming through the gaps.

Once he drops back, he's looking at the rush and freezes - feet in concrete and in an open stance. As the rush comes to him, he panics and remembers his primary receiver and throws to him in a hurry before he gets hit, but because he's not looking downfield, moving his feet and stepping into the throw, he's throwing from that open stance and his throws are not accurate because of that and because he doesn't get a good look at the receiver's route.

I'm not saying the QB is the main problem - he's part of it, but his jitters are caused by an O-line in which he has no confidence and is therefore playing scared.... not sure I blame him.

I think that if he had a solid O-line, he would do just fine, but he doesn't appear to have a quick enough mental processor to react as quickly as he needs to do to run our offense with a poor O-line. If you noticed the first play that TP ran, he saw trouble and scrambled immediately..... he mentally processed the developing rush situation and bolted for a nice gain. I don't know if DJ will ever be able to do that without a huge improvement in situational awareness and reaction.

It hasn’t helped but it’s not what’s crippling this team.
It hurt us worse when TL was out , we would have beat ND.
