Did anyone go to baseball scrimmage

Jan 30, 2018, 9:07 AM

yesterday? Seventeen days until the season opener! Davidson,Beer,Williams will be a stout threesome but I really don"t see capable replacements for Pinder,Rohlman and Andrew Cox. Do not believe we have a capable leadoff man. Wilkie will be a good hitter and hopefully Byrd and Wharton will produce like they did in the fall. Cooper looks like he will be a solid contributor. Think the ceiling for this offense is to be as good as last year. While we have more power arms and more options on the pitching staff I don't see any that we can count on to get us six quality innings. Hopefully a couple will step up. Anyway Go Tigers! Just a realistic view and hopefully a wrong view.

What is wrong with Meredith? Is he hurt?

So is that a no I’m going to the practice?

I know the scrimmage is open next week after fan day.

I’m just interested in who CML will trot out the first weekend as SP’s sounded like from thw interview that it’s going to be JH, Miller, & Strider with the usually suspects coming out of the pen, Henney, Crawford, and Gilliam.

Sounds like Wharton will be one of the corner OF but who will be the other if Wilkie is Catching making Williams DH & putting Beer at 1st will make another opening in LF for someone. Wonder who that will be I realize Beer will play in LF some days just the days he doesn’t wonder who will?

JH, Miller, & Strider

DH- Williams? Hawkins?
C- Wilkie
1B- Beer / Cooper?
2B- Greene
3B- Byrd , Hawkins?
SS- Davidson
LF if Beer is @1st then who? Weatherly? Majowski? Jolly?
CF- ? Meredith out so who plays CF?
Weatherly?
RF- Wharton? Henderson?
Will be interesting to see who starts in the OF opening weekend.

Wharton will start in centerfield. Jolly will start in one of the corner positions. Wilkie is going to play, catching or dh. they are trying Beer at first again but I don't see it happening. Williams is an adequate first baseman,Beer not. Williams will catch and play first. They are hoping to play Byrd at second but Hawkins and Cromwell are very iffy at the plate. I believe Byrd ends up at third with Greene at second. Pitching is up in the air. Strider and Weatherly both walked five in two innings in Monday's scrimmage. Strider needs to be a weekend starter for us but he must locate better.

Idk why anyone thinks we are going to have a down season just bc pitching left, well guess what we brought in better pitching these dudes can bring the heat unlike what we’ve had in the past

None of the starters last year were high velo guys. 3 pitch mix guys with location. Clemson pitches to contact and plays defense. BB/K ratio will probably increase but offense will have to hit. There was a stretch last season where we could not buy a hit. I see a regional and possibly super but we are gonna have to be hot, late.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don’t they all look hot late?

Pretty reasonable assessment....

I think our only high velo/strike out guy was Gilliam....Other than that...

We will need to have a lot at the plate this year....

THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS "NO ONE" KNOWS HOW WE WILL BE THIS YEAR TILL WE PLAY AT LEAST A MONTH AND GET THE TALENTED FRESHMEN FEET WET AND GET MEREDITH IN THE LINEUP. WE KNOW WHAT WE HAVE IN THE RETURNING GUYS BUT COACH LEE LOVES SOME OF THE NEW GUYS BUT GUESS WHAT, THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING YET. HOPEFULLY THEY ARE AS GOOD AS THE COACHES THINK.

Don't forget about Jake Higginbotham on the mound. He was pretty solid before he got injured a couple years back. He has a good opportunity to become a weekend starter.

Higgy will get a spot for sure, i think that was mentioned up top (JH). His velo is up (back to normal) and i think he will do well this year. It looks like we could have 3 leftys to run out there on W/E and Midweek starts with Miller in the mix to break it up on weekends.
