8 minutes to go. My question is why THEN? In the State game, we got on the boards, fought for rebounds. Yesterday, we just reverted to the shoot and fall back system once again. That is a consistent aspect of all of our losses. Lack of effort on rebounding.

The Tigers lost the game during the middle 8 minutes. From 4 minutes left in the first to 4 mins into the second half they scored one basket. Personally I think Bennett outcoached Brownell over that duration. He saw the Tigers with momentum and an opportunity to pull within one point. He adjusted and Clemson never found an answer. The Tigers chose to go for 3’s out of the break, missed some open shots, and that was game over. What you saw later was just an attempt to show Clemson “grit”. To little too late. Clemson played without poise last night. UVA is a nightmare to play when you get impatient on offense and don’t box out on defense.

Sure did out coach CBB.
The double teaming of PJ was smart.

But CBB did not miss any 3PT shots.
CBB did not decide for PJbto shoot his first 3pt shots and miss them
CBB did not rush his first inside shots as PJ did
CBB did not tell Chase to make two or three dumb drives vs their defense and put highly poorly ececuted contested layips
CBB did not mishandle the ball like Chase did early in.

The loss was a team loss. PJ and Chase did not play well tonight. I think Chae lost all confidence in his shooting and became really rattled throughout the game. Tigers missed open shots and regular shots and highly contested shots all over the floor.

It became quicksand out there for them.

And I think that is where CBB did not do well as a coach. It is also where I think he fails often. He is not a very good ingame counselor, therapist when the moment needs him to be.

I do not think it is his personality. But he needs to gain that skillset or have it on his staff. The Bobby Knight way does not work anymore.

We may reminisce about that tough coach way. May want to act like tough men and lambast "softness". But if the kids you got need something different, then whining and griping and ignoring what is needed will not change a thing. And neither will letting them try to figure it out on their own.

The lack of effort is a trademark of Brownlee teams. I’m sick of being Charlie Brown kicking the football and believing in things being different. They never are.

UVA and NC State are totally different teams. UVA is simply better than we are but I was really disappointed the game was not close.

Always does. Most teams too, especially if behind. It is the start of final stretch.

However if you look at games, Clemson typically has turned up intensity in last 4 to 5 when they are behind. They are probably playing faster and looser, not thinking as much
