Defense is soft and offense is

Nov 6, 2022, 8:32 AM

Timid. Going to be hard to beat Louisville and maybe South Carolina and North Carolina. Looks like we took the open date week completely off, without any hard work.
We've had bad offense with five and four star recruits. Now comes the hard part, trying to improve with lower recruits. That is on the way. What qb or receiver would want to sign with us? Had we recruited Drake Maye, he would be playing just like DJ and Cade.

Heck, we had long stretches of offensive struggles with Laetence and Watson here.

Defense is solid and played well enough to win if the offense was capable.

Good enough to win. We never stopped the run. You don’t win games if you can’t stop the run. Offense was bad but to say the D played anywhere remotely to being good is ridiculous.

They run at will.

Defense issues are scheme.

Offense is personnel.

2 offensive Turnovers and a special teams turnover got us us at 28-0. Game was over at that point.

Re: ND offense scored 14 on offense other than two ints

and a blocked punt. All we had to do was NOT turn it over and coach better on punts since ND was known for punt blocks already. Yeah they ran but only had 300 yards on O.

Our front 7 talent-wise can compare with anyone

Nov 6, 2022, 10:32 AM [ in reply to Re: Defense is soft and offense is ]

so what's the issue? Coaching and development. That's why you find the best coaches you can.

Defense is lazy and underachieving. We've played a high school schedule that has hidden our flaws, sense of urgency and lack of technique. ND ran for almost 300 yards - that is pathetic and we all know it.

Walking back from the stadium ND fans were amazed they could beat us like that with their 3rd string QB. They said he was terrible and they still won. Sounds to me like their coaches figured they could stop our O cold and just run on our vaunted front 7 which is exactly what happened.

LoL......
The defense looked like garbage... My grandbaby can tackle better than what they did last night.
Some pretended to tackle, a few actually tackled, and the others stood on the field and watched.

The difference between the two defense and offenses is they actually worked as a team.... They had fire, energy, motivation. A hunger to Win.
We had .....,.SLOPPY!!! And the same ole plays that DID NOT WORK but OH, we ran them anyway!! The sad thing is it took two weeks to come up with that garbage.
I pray I am wrong but I think we have seen our last Win for the season if the TIGERS continue with that hot mess!!

Defense - good enuf; offense - glaring problem: Blitz pickup

Nov 6, 2022, 9:06 AM

Watched the entire game again last nite on You Tube.

The biggest problems on O are:

(1) Poor preparation and inability to make adjustments in H2 from our O coaches for the blitz. H2 was wash, rinse, and repeat from H1 re: handling the blitz. ND would send 2 blitzers into the same gap; only one could get picked up and the other one was in DJ's grill or sacked him.

(2) Inconsistent play of RBs when picking up the blitz. Both RBs recognize the blitz and position themselves to pick it up ... that's good O coaching. But while Mafah could actually execute the block when picking up the blitz (and one time he actually took out both blitzers by himself ... fantastic), our other RB is ... I hate to say it because we all love the guy ... is flat out terrible at picking up the blitz. The RB that we all love has been awful all year at blocking the blitzers. All the opposing coaches know this by now, and it won't stop until our O coaches figure out how to fix it.

(3) Our O-line is OK at pass blocking (not great, but adequate), but we simply do not have enough studs to consistently beat a good opposing D-Line to create the holes. Therefore, against the top-end teams (and they don't have to be UGA top-end), we become one-dimensional. Which leads to ...

(4) Generally mediocre WR corp. (Yes, our TEs are outstanding ... with D.Allen being great. But our WRs, other than Antonio Williams and maybe before 2022 is all over Adam Randall will show-out), our WRs are pedestrian. Those days of multiple super study WRs on the same team are not with us at this time. Our WRs either struggle to get separation or struggle to consistently catch the ball when they do get some separation. Their blocking, while better than 2021's WR Corp fiasco, is also still mediocre. #80 for us killed the opening possession with the 2 holding penalties, leading to 3 and out followed by the blocked punt.

Defense ... despite the hype we are not some Steel Curtain or Monsters of Midway or Baltimore Ravens of that LB who stabbed the guy to death, but our D is good enough to take a team to the CFP. (But CFP hopes for us in 2022 are dead and buried.)

However, w can still end up with a superb season.

Our DC, OC, RBC and WC are not P5 coaches. Dabo will not replace them unless they take a gig somewhere else. Dabo has made some questionable coaching hires. All these ex players. Streeter is a terrible OC. Spiller is not a good recruiter or RB coach. Tyler Grisham is a terrible WR coach. Our better days are behind us. We will continue to win 8-10+ a year because the ACC sucks. BAMA, Georgia, OcryO St and others will separate from us.

Re: Defense - good enuf; offense - glaring problem: Blitz pickup

Nov 6, 2022, 10:35 AM [ in reply to Defense - good enuf; offense - glaring problem: Blitz pickup ]

Pretty much nailed it!

1. Our D-line (really front 7) is way over-hyped and certainly has under performed. Maybe our ears should have perked up when Dabo had to bench Murphy for basically loafing. He seemed to straighten out, but that was possibly a forewarning.

2. Our linebackers have great individual talent, but out gap integrity has been pretty pathetic and last night many times they were just not getting off blocks.

3. Because of our pathetic offense, particularly early in games, we have not been able to make a few first downs and flip the field on our punts. Other than a few nice KO returns, we usually run three plays and kick from our 30 YL ...... evne against mediocre teams.

4. After watching UGA several times this year, the difference between Todd Monken's and Brandon's play calling is light years difference. Monken has turned Bennett into a Heisman contender. We all know what Steeter has done for DJ.

Defense is waiting to get paid and move on to the NFL …offense realizes no one is getting paid by the NFL … two extremes yet creates the same mentality come game time…if it goes our way and we are having fun then great…if not then that’s okay also!!!
