Decommitting Over Coaching Changes?

Dec 10, 2021, 7:22 PM

Am I the only one just a little confused over the recent decommitments? Jihaad Campbell is taking a visit to TAMU very soon, and they are considered to be competing with us to gain his (re)commitment. The reason for his decommitment is most likely because of the departure of CBV… but isn’t Elko leaving TAMU as well? Why decommit from us, because we lost our DC, just to go to another school in the same situation? The only difference between us is the current recruiting class…

Same thing with Everette and UGA… isn’t Lanning being targeted for one or more of the many open head coaching positions?

With Sabb and UM… based on the stellar year they are having, Mike Macdonald may be targeted as well…

I guess what I’m wondering is if we had landed more of our targets in this past recruiting class, would these others guys have been so quick to leave? Or maybe recruiting has nothing to do with it and these guys only got on the ship when CBV was at the helm…

What are your thoughts?

Texas A&M is supposedly handing out a lot of NIL dollars but they will also likely lose recruits next week. Georgia will as well if their DC leaves

Schools do not hand out NIL money.

Here's the way it works. Big donor who happens to own multiple auto dealerships tells coach go get who you want. Then said coach tells athlete if he comes to atm a huge NIL contract is waiting on him that includes the keys to a 100k sports car. The NIL also includes a monthly cash stipend. All he has to do is stand in front of the dealership and have his picture taken.

If they committed because of BV, it makes sense.

You're living in the past if you think kids commit to SCHOOLS.... they commit to a unit, a coach, a promise, and relationships formed during recruiting. Coach leaves, then they may turn to the second best relationship they formed in recruiting. And don't forget, coaches and agents are in the ears 24/7 trying to sway them, before, during and after committing. Dabo can't convince them all, especially if he wasn't the primary recruiter... and the head coach rarely is.

These kids are not "fans." They're kids trying to make the most out of their ONE SHOT to be a CFB star.

THAT... I understand.

Love ya brother but Ohio State lost a DC that was pretty popular. OSU has 18 recruits. Not one decommit. No decommit when they got Knowles. No one has decommited from ok st since Knowles left.

Plus jihad just got a couple CB's to osu. I thought Knowles would have been a good choice for us. Love his chaos defense. A lot like bv defense...

You actually made my point. Clemson recruits tend to come for the positon coach. Some TEAMS can attract and keep recruits better than we can because their SCHOOL is the attraction over their coaches. We ain't that.... ;)

Which Ohio State DC are you referring to?***

And Dabo was just at IMG.

All 3 gone.

Looks line we’ll just roll with Renfrow type three stars that buy in and show em’ what we’re made of… again!

No big deal. Bring it on.

Recruiting is a dog eat dog world,
Coaches use every advantage to get these kids to commit to them and to decomitt from wherever they are committed...

Clemson has took advantage of winning, staff being the most stable of all universities....putting players in the pros....etc erc etc to reel kids in and keep them from other schools...

Now schools have the advantage on us for a split second, and they are taking advantage..

This is part of college recruiting....its always been like this...

We lost our AD....DC and OC in the same season...AFTER we had the worst year we have had since before these kids were teenagers..

Coaches are selling them on a daily basis that Clemson is dying....we in turmoil...they are joining a sinking ship....that's other coaches jobs to convince them Clemson is dying...and it's only logical that these professional recruiters will flip some of these kids minds when given as much ammo as they have on Clemson right now..

Now its dabo job to stabilize the situation, hst things back on track...and prove to kids in the coming classes that we are the same winning program we have been under dabo....

I'm convinced dabo will get it done..

These types of things happen....we have just been spoiled by greatness....and I promise you....we will get back on track

Players play for their coach, period. A commit is nothing until the ink hits the paper and to make it worse, today we have the portal.

I don't blame them for recommitting when their coordinator changes. Most are not Clemson, Georgia, or Alabama fans. They just want to go play for who they think they will like the best and who will give them best NFl development. Kind of hard to commit to the unknown.
