If you've watched his football film, this probably comes as no surprise to you. He's only a junior.

Little CJ Spiller ran a 10.42 as a senior in high school. Not sure what his best junior time was. I believe a 10.29/10.22? was his best 100m time at Clemson.

Does Eziommume improve his speed in the next 1-5 years?

Even if he doesn’t he has all the tools to be one heck of a back

Some have suggested he is not elite or even close to it, but

a top 40 running back.

The first 40 yards would seem more important for football

May 8, 2023, 2:56 PM

… but, guys who are great at the 40 yard dash often don’t have that next gear that world class runners like CJ Spiller and Travis Etienne had.

But at the same time, it seems many guys with great 100 meter “track” times have trouble hitting the hole and getting past the line of scrimmage.

We saw a lot of griping on TNet the past two seasons about the seeming lack of an extra gear with Will Shipley and maybe that’s justified, but his greatest asset appears to be blinding initial acceleration along with instinct for where (and when) to hit the hole combined with the determination not to be stopped short of the goal line or the first down sticks.

Maybe David Eziomumme will bring all the assets to the table … acceleration, instinct, determination AND the ability to take it to the house on any snap. We’ll see when he gets to campus.

Meanwhile, I’m very happy to have him as a verbal commitment.

Etienne was fast but even he did not have the extra gear that spiller had. Jacoby was track fast but was as not as fast as spiller in pads. Sadly mike bellamy was probably closest to spiller in the Dabo era.

Everyone has been spoiled by Etienne and his instant acceleration and top end speed.

Shipley has a serious set of wheels and is a more physical runner than Etienne was, not as explosive but hes got enough juice and does well, he also rips off alot of his runs through the heart of defenses and not around the edge(thats incredible considering no one has respected the pass game the past 2 years)If Shipley can get his pass blocking down he's a 2nd or early 3rd rounder as it stands now I'd guess 4th or 5th round. Most of that has to do with teams not seeing value in taking rbs with premium draft picks.

Shipley is a great back and we are extremely fortunate he came to Clemson, but I don't ever remember Etienne being caught from behind.

They are both outstanding running backs though.

Shipley is a great back, but to say he is more physical than Etienne was is laughable. Etienne could either run past you, or run through you. Remember, one of the big things about him was his yards after contact.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Etienne had great balance after contact.

2

May 8, 2023, 8:26 PM

Shipley has an incredible nose for the goal line and the 1st down sticks, but he doesn’t have Etienne’s balance and ability to recover his feet after he gets hit.

No knock on Shipley. He is a high quality RB and a terrific leader. He’s going to have a huge year in 2023.

But, we had never before enjoyed a guy as well rounded and talented as Etienne at Clemson. I’m not sure we’ll see another guy as good as great as him anytime soon.

Here are his junior highlights. How much does he improve

1

May 8, 2023, 3:43 PM

with another season and spring?

He appears to be a guy with good size and acceleration and excellent speed to start. He's just running past people. If you have it, use it, but how are his feet? Later in the video, you see him show some wiggle and foot quickness, as well as adjusting his speed to throw off defensive angles and getting low to take on tacklers. He's unafraid and effective blocking for teammates and he has good hands and experience in the passing game. There's a lot to like.

Pretty ferocious run blocker when called upon.

Anything under 11 is elite for a HS junior. He’s got all the tools to be a great.

Wished we were going after another RB in this class as we will probably lose 2 this cycle.

Eziomume has not been the primary back up until this year. He is a bit under the radar, look out he will be exploding. I like the speed at 205.

I tend to agree.

He's likely going to be 215 lbs. or more by the time he arrives on campus with at least the same speed. Not much wiggle but Bo Jackson didn't have any wiggle either. Not saying he's Bo Jackson but track speed at 225 lbs. has it's benefits.

I would encourage all to watch 20023 commit Jamarius Haynes tape he could be a legit back

I’ve watched a lot of Haynes tape and my doubts have been chronicled on here. Slight build and runs on his heels. Despite the Auburn camp 40 time that’s made its way around the internet, his speed looks average to me. The only official time I saw for him was his senior region track meet where he ran like an 11.8.

I posted details previously. Having dished all that negativity, I liked what I saw out of Termite Jr in the spring and I thought he was not worthy of an offer. Hopefully I’m wrong about Haynes. His numbers were phenomenal.

Just a note on running styles......you spoke about him running on his heels......so did Jim Brown, Gayle Sayers, Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith.

I used to get excited about track speed

May 8, 2023, 6:46 PM

But over the past 20 yrs we've had track speedsters that never did much.

Bowman was the last one that 8 remember

May 8, 2023, 6:49 PM

Yeah Bowman had some of the best HS tape we've ever seen but he couldn't even get on the field here. Seems like HS RBs are very tough to gauge at the next level.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great Time for RB, shows he can put on the jets the entire distance

May 8, 2023, 7:05 PM

he also has that upright, "angry" running style Swinney coveted in Gallman and ETN. This kid could be the next sleeper for us.. I remember everyone complaining Robert Nkemdiche was the only reason we offered Gallman, and nobody heard of ETN until he hit that run against Louisville.
