Dabo made a QB change when Kelly Bryant struggled...

Nov 27, 2022, 1:22 PM

what's changed in his thought process to do it now?

IMO, Bryant was at least as good as DJ. But it sure looks like a lack of confidence in CK. And this is our future!

Maybe the coaches have realized they are so inept at QB development

Nov 27, 2022, 1:29 PM

that it really doesn’t matter how talented the player is, they are only going to get worse under them. Might as well just stick with DJ. They can ruin Cade and Vizzina later.

It is almost impossible to know with certainty which it is.

Nov 27, 2022, 1:51 PM

It could be a lack of confidence in CK; maybe he is a total bust. Or, Maybe it's that Dabo and Streeter have so totally hitched their wagons to DJ, that to suggest that DJ has failed would be to suggest that they have failed, and maybe that is what is preventing a change at this point - their egos.

I can't say for sure, and for the longest time, I was convinced that CK may be a bust, much like Hunter Johnson, and that Dabo sees it where we don't. While that is still a possibility, after yesterday, I have serious doubts. I say that because DJ was so egregiously, undeniably awful, that he needed to be sat, and even if it was to give him a chance to settle down and regroup for a few series, meanwhile giving a QB who was only expected to come in an maitain and manage the game temporarily. Any and every other college football coach would have done that. Mind you, sitting DJ would not be like sitting Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, or even Trevor Lawrence or DW; no, DJ has struggled all year, and if there has ever been a QB that needed to be yanked, it was DJ yesterday. Then, on top of that, DJ was injured, and guess what? He still wasn't yanked.

So here we are. My rational mind refuses to believe that CK is so terrible, so incapable, that he could not have performed at least as well as DJ was playing yesterday. ####, Hunter Johnson was never THAT bad. All he needed to do is come in an maintain and manage the game temporarily. If he can't do that, he is a total and unmitigated BUST. We have all seen him play, albeit rarely, in special situations. Having seen that, he doesn't look like a total bust at all. He looks capable. Therefore, I can only conclude that not pulling DJ yesterday reflects some kind of stubborn ego thing with Dabo and/or Streeter.

Cade, etc.

Nov 27, 2022, 2:35 PM

The thing about Cade is that we just don't know, because he didn't get meaningful snaps. From the little bit that I saw, I thought he at least looked comfortable in the pocket.

As many problems as DJ has, he is better than HuJo! DJU has the physical tools, but never looks comfortable in the pocket. HuJo was the same way. I never thought Taison looked comfortable in the pocket... but he looked better for Tech. DJU has the physical tools and little else.

DJU is a monumental disappointment, but sometimes we forget how mediocre some of these guys were. Of course, this is a Clemson board. I remember people saying that Chase Brice was the second best QB in the ACC, which was obviously ridiculous.

Dj is 100% coddled never seen Dabo celebrate mediocrity and defend a player who played awful so fiercely.

What has DJ done to earn trust? Heck playcalling indicates they didn't trust DJ all year.

The difference is Dabo played Trevor a lot in the first four games and after the GT game it was obvious Trevor made the offense go warp speed. We still have no idea about Cade.

KB was a better QB than DJ. No, I want to rephrase that is a way that may be more constructive to the real conversation to be had here. The offense with KB was much better than the offense has been under DJ.

If CK was anywhere near as good as replacement as TL was, he would have been starting for quite awhile now. The fact of the matter is, he is not yet ready to make the offense better than it is with DJ. That is the reason (and the only reason) that you have not seen more of him.

It remains to be seen how our offense might improve by next year - and who will be the best QB to lead that improvement.

After he benched KB he had some upset players in his locker room(cured by winning the national title) and had alot of people on social media insinuating he was a racist. That plays a factor into this imo.

Only for gutless people. Or people who are/were invested in Clemson failing like the national media was that year. By the time the Natty rolled around the media wanted Trevor to turn pro after his freshman year so Alabama wouldn’t have competition outside the SEC.

Kelly Bryant > DJ

Trevor > Cade

He doesn’t have Trevor Lawrence sitting behind DJ. That’s what.

No but Cade is a better option than DJ simply due to his legs alone. Probably could've won that game after DJ got hit in the hip just running the ball and sprinkling in the dreaded bubble screen.

Re: Dabo made a QB change when Kelly Bryant struggled...

Nov 27, 2022, 2:43 PM [ in reply to Re: Dabo made a QB change when Kelly Bryant struggled... ]

And they seem to keep thinking that DJU can play better than he has. I feel as if they think they have invested so much into DJU that they won't change now. CK has not gotten meaningful work so AT THIS POINT IN THE SEASON he won't be able to step in and improve the team.

That certainly doesn't mean that the coaching staff made the right decision to not give CK more meaningful snaps in "preseason" games.

The problem (going forward) beyond putting our ACC Championship Game and bowl hopes with DJU, is that the coaching staff has sent the message to CK that they don't think he can play better than DJU in games. Who wouldn't transfer after getting that message from the coaching staff?

So, did Dabo really do DJ any favors?
