Promoting Conn to DC would be the height of nepotism

Dec 7, 2021, 12:26 PM

There is no way we are seriously going to consider replacing the best DC in College Football with someone only experienced in calling high school defense, right?! I get him calling the Bowl game, that's all well and good, but we have to replace BV with a proven DC. Best is still Standard?

Dabo and Conn are related? how is it nepotism?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You dont have to be related....

Nepotism

"the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs."

Dabo has known everyone on the coaching staff for several years now.

Are you saying he doesn't have a friendship with all of them at this point?

He was a highly successful HC in H.S.

Remember, the offenses that are so popular in college and in the NFL started "where"? In large part, "high school"!

I think he will do well because he has been around the man! Anything he didn't know; he should have picked up! We hope so at least!

Until proven otherwise; I think this is probably the best choice for the bowl game. Be interesting to see his twist on BV's Defense.

Dabo is well-aware that it's his a$$ on the line...

Dec 7, 2021, 12:34 PM

if his coaching hires don't work-out. Similar to recruiting, he has more than earned the benefit of the doubt and is entitled to a little latitude.

That said, while he may interview some external candidates, I will be surprised if he doesn't ultimately promote from within the program.

Dabo's ### will never be or should be on the line even if he goes 4-8 5 seasons in a row. He is aTop 3 coach in the country and have you seen the contracts of mediocre coaches in College football today?

Dabo will never go 4-8... but I hope he keeps the passion and makes the changes to win 1 or 2 more Nattys in the next 5 years. With a good QB play, we are in playoffs next year.

If the hire is made from the current staff, who is more qualified than Conn?

I'm not saying the hire should be made from the current staff, but I'm interested in who you would feel is a better option.

If Best is Standard, then we aren't gonna hire from within***

How do you know they aren't the best?

As was the case with Dabo, you (being an outsider to the situation) can't determine that someone isn't the best at a job that they have yet to occupy.

Maybe Conn or Reed or both are creating some of the coverage disguises that Venables has started to employ in the last several years.

Maybe Bates is the one designing and calling some of the twists and stunts that have been giving opposing OL so much trouble this season.

You are giving Venables all of the credit for what Clemson's defense has done and have no idea what involvement or what skills any of the remaining coaches have that would lend to them being an amazing defensive coordinator.

Your reasoning is faulty. Think about it.***

Our expectations are where they are because of what has been achieved with Dabo as head coach making coach and personnel decisions. I think he has earned the trust to make them in the future. Sit back and enjoy the best of times in Clemson football history.

Anyway, I’ll support any decision Dabo makes, because I’m just some fan on a message board, not the two time national championship coach whose livelihood depends on the team’s performance. You know how it is.

Why would seriously post something that implies that you know more than Dabo ?

That’s hilarious and pathetic at the same time.

Try again. Or not.

I'm going to speculate that anyone who thinks like you would never have hired Dabo in the first place. So our whole program is probably a good bit over your head.
