Is Danny Pearman doing his job? He’s our portal guy.

Oct 2, 2021, 7:17 AM

We needed some OL, a fast/twitchy slot WR, and an experienced QB as a solid backup who could play if we had issues.

Pearman dropped the ball. That’s prob who we should blame.

Sort of hard to drop the ball when your boss tells you we have the personnel on the team. At first, I thought it was an anomaly. And, in Dabo's defense, we did have injuries. That said, every coach knew we were lacking experience. True, we may have the personnel but were definitely lacking in experience... Especially at QB and slot, and had to know we were an injury or two from depletion of oline.

Self admitted from coach Elliott that we knew when DJ came in, he had issues. I remember people posting back in January that we needed to pick up 3 or 4 guys. We got fortunate that Taylor stuck but everyone knew Bubba was gone. Bubba couldn't have helped this year anyway.

Honestly if we really think someone is a high baseball prospect we need to move on or assume they are gone and still recruit the position.

Dabo doesn’t believe in the portal…

Oct 2, 2021, 7:38 AM

He doesn’t want to use it to bring in players. I think Pearman’s job is to help the players leaving enter the portal.

Well in that case he’s doing a great job. We seem to be very adept at getting people into the darn thing.

Outgoing = 20 …. Incoming = 0

He’s doing a great job and the other programs really appreciate our recruiting efforts. Our cupboards are growing bare but at least we still have fighting Swinney brothers.

Agreed. Dabo does nothing as our players are playing all over the country now. Not taking kids from the portal works when you are not losing 3 to 4 quality players a year. The philosophy has to adjust if this program is to be successful.

That being said the portal will be a major part of the ultimate downfall of college football. I mean come on the mid majors are going to be a farm system for the major programs. Good for some not good for the sport.

"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard

Which of those 20 have had such an impact and that it turned the program around where they transferred or really made a big difference? Mellusi - WI sucks, Cooper - J. State (couldn't win at Clemson). It may have reduced the Tiger talent at levels 2 - 4 but there are always others to step up and get the experience.

Feaster - left no impact
Johnson - left no impact
Brice - left no impact
Bryant - left no impact
Smith - left no impact
...

I'm tired and will rest now.

I would argue that we could definitely use Mellusi this year. Kendrick also…maybe move him to the slot.
Wouldn’t mind having Niles Pinckney back now that our 2 DTs are down
Brice may have come in handy this year as well.

If you do not think that this team could have benefitted from Brice, Jones, Kendrick, Pinckney, and Williams being on the team...you are in denial.

They were depth people at Clemson.

That’s just a fact and they didn’t like the facts.

+1 for referencing the master quotes man. We all know this debate over Transfers ain't over til it's over.

If the world were perfect, it wouldn't be.

Reporting nothing to see here in the incoming transfer department. Time must drag by working in that dept.

Of course Pearman’s doing job. They woke him up from an afternoon nap to help Dixon fill out his portal paperwork. He’s doing a solid job so far based in the job description Dabo handed him.

would the portal have helped us THIS year?

Sure in hindsight, you might see some opportunities, but absolutely no quality player was transferring to Clemson this past off season.

This year? Who knows?

But, all the pissing and moaning is about what MIGHT have already happened, not what COULD happen.

Might need him to come back and help coach the offense? Definitely didn't get better after moving to the office and we have seen the TE's even less since he quit coaching them. While I don't think he was a great recruiter, I do think he was a good coach. I think he coached a little more hard-nosed style which maybe we need right now.
