Dabo and Hunter

Seems like Dabo agrees with me more than most here on TNet. I am not saying HJ will save us, but surely him coming home is a blessing. Especially in the early games if DJU goes down, there is comfort knowing we have a talented guy with experience. His career has not gone well due to injuries and things beyond his control.
He is again a TIGER and brings a lot.

Seems to me that Hunter’s experience, maturity and familiarity with the program could only be a benefit to the team.
Go Tigers!

I agree with what you and Dabo say. Can't speak for the rest of Tnet and don't remember him being injury prone. Not sure what you refer to as things beyond his control. All that said, I watched as many games as possible with the other teams. Especially at Northwestern, he was pretty bad sometimes. Sure, they didn't have the talent we do. It's a blessing because by and large he knows our offense and he's grown a lot. Should DJ get hurt or falter, he's an excellent tool to have available. Hopefully (if dj5 doesn't put it together) hj would be a bridge for Cade late season.

His OL was horrible at Northwestern, Trevor would have struggled there!
Imagine DJ at Northwestern ??

Returning to Clemson was a plus for him —- and the Tigers too! Believe it or not BUT Coach Swinney is NOT the village idiot. He knows what he is doing — all the time.

He was injured a couple of times at NW but IMO, the biggest thing that affected him there was his Mother being diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer. The HC, Pat Fitzgerald, at NW told him not to rush his return and focus on his family. Got to repsect the coach for that. His Mother is doing better, he is engaged (to a young lady he met at Clemson) and is in a better place. Whether he plays or not, he'll be positive for the Tigers. I wouldn't be surprised if he stays on with the Tiger's staff after this season.

My Mom (and Pop) were everything to me. Loosing one at 20 would have had incredible effect on me.

I believe his mother had life threatening cancer the first year he was supposed to play at northwestern and it had a major impact on him.

I don’t know why but I’ve had this feeling that HJ is going to have a moment. It might be something as minimal as Cole Stoudt lighting up Oklahoma, or it could be something bigger.

Don’t think anyone thinks Dabo is the village idiot. I doubt many think HJ would be the first option off the bench either. Most would think his return is a good thing but more for leadership and insurance than likely playing time

It’s trope. We will not know if Dabo agrees with you until we see who rolls out first when DJ is not in the game. Keep in mind Dabo says things in a way to push our players and help the team…should not be taken literally

If my memory serves me correctly, it already been reported that Dabo told Hunter he was not in line to compete but he was dressing as a player coach. Hunter wanting to get into coaching agreed. Based on that, I would expect Hunter to only play if there is a blow out Where Dabo typically empties the bench.
If that changes or something different happens so be it But I don't expect to see Hunter take many snaps

I don't see HJ starting in front of CK, but I can see the possibility that if DJ is not the starter after 2-3 games he leaves. That means the young, still growing CK, is the starter. So if he is injured, enter HJ leading this superb team to glory. Of course, I would much rather DJ does well and none of this happens.

I am not sure Wiles and Helms would not both be ahead of HJ on the depth chart

Dabo has said within the last week that Johnson came in with the understanding that he will be number3 on the depth chart. It was posted on Tigernet.

After hearing Dabo talk about Hunter I go the impression he got him back here for more than just a back-up QB. I think he thinks he can mentor the younger guys and maybe has plans for him to stay on as a grad assistant.

HJ could seriously have his best season ever?
Jul 25, 2022, 2:55 AM

He might find his niche and have a great year. He could possibly find his mojo, find his 5* rating and make his NFL draft round this season?? Even if DJU rips it this season, HJ could lot's of backup and destroy the opponents.
DJU could struggle and give HJ opportunity to play. If you watched Northwestern at all, you saw all QBs struggling for 3yrs. Their line has been worse than ours, their RBs were weak and the WRs were not draftable. That said, HJ might be great in our system. He might push DJ even under his best days. This could be the best thing for him i truly think that HJ could have won 1-2 more games last year but our QB room is as deep as ever. Jist think there are three 5* players, a 4* player playing slot, Helms might be a 4*, and we have 2 other qbs if we needed them. That room is crazy deep and we have another 5* coming in.
I really think we afe missing WR talent right now. So much for WRU?? Unfortunately Jeff Scott took that with him. We gave so e 6'3" four star playersbit we are missing these silver tuna players we were getting like Sammy, Nuk, Mike, Ross, Tee, Amari, etc, etc.

What do you mean Dabo agrees with you more than Tigernet? Do you think HJ is #2 on the depth chart? Has Dabo said that?
HJ is a Depth guy. Dabo lost Tyson P. He needed another QB. Cade is the #2 guy and possibly #1 if DJ doesn’t show significant improvement. HJ will be battling Hunter Helms for #3 and I’ll tell ya, Helms is solid so he’ll have a battle on his hands for sure for the #3 spot.
