Curious about LSU completed pass when he stepped on the line

Nov 9, 2019, 5:36 PM

Why was it complete?
Was receiver forced out?
Or did Bama DB tip the pass making LSU received the 2nd person to touch the ball?

Clearly no help from the TV rules “expert” who did not know it’s illegal fir receiver to step out of bounds.

Pushed out, reestablished in bounds with the toe tap, and caught the ball.

That's what John Parker _______ said on the Bama broadcast.

I forget his last name (former championship QB). Their broadcast team is way more humble than their fans.

It is not illegal for the player to step out. It is "first touching" and dead ball if he touches the ball before getting the foot back in bounds. To rule that incomplete would be to rule he touched (caught) the ball before his foot hit the ground on its way back to the field. No way conclusive video evidence of that. Ruling on the field.

Obviously, neither I nor the announcers nor the former NCAA ref knows what the rule is. Hehe.
