Imagine if we had made as big a deal over the flu?

The flu is a killer. Every year, according to the CDC some 350k-400k unhealthy, elderly (and yes sometimes children) die of the flu. There would have never been a football game played, school attended, job completed over the last 100 years. I don’t get it.

Its more deadly than the flu and the unvaccinated are filling up the ICU units. That said, I agree that at one point we are just going to have to live with it and move on.

I am not saying ignore it. I was in the hospital for over a week with it with a Covid pneumonia. I am vaccinated now, but we have to live our lives is all I am saying. Full speed ahead.

as do the survival rate for covid. the reason this seems so much worse is it is crammed down our throats daily by the media. if you can not see that just mask up and head to the basement.

Another armchair epidemiologist. Since all this started I’ve known several people who have died from Covid, i’ve never known anyone who died from flu.

Have you ever known anyone to die from cancer? How about
Sep 2, 2021, 7:40 AM
|
|
a car wreck from a drunk driver? How about obesity driven heart disease/heart attack? Pick any one of those categories and I've known way more people to have died from those causes than COVID-19. Our society used to recognize the fact that a certain amount of death is acceptable, if not unavoidable, in order to allow individuals to live free and fulfilling lives. But somewhere in the past two years the ruling class has foisted upon us a "if it saves just one life" view to justify any level of intrusion into our lives and curtailment of our freedoms.
I fully recognize that COVID-19 is a bad virus - no doubt about it. But it is NOT an apocalyptic event that can't be survived by the vast majority of people. At some point we have to recognize that our ability to control a virus in the wild is limited and that this virus is not going to vanish anytime soon. We are going to have to live with it like we do many other diseases and return to some semblance of normal in how our government functions (i.e. legislative process vs. executive decrees) and how we live our lives.
And before you ask - yes, I've had COVID, been vaccinated and plan to take a booster when available.

Wow. CDC should change their web page then.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/past-seasons.htmlThese page includes information about the estimated burden of influenza from past seasons, including tables of the estimated influenza disease burden (and 95% credible interval [Cr I]) by age group.

If you click the link provided, go to “how we estimate” link and look at why these numbers do not include deaths that are listed on a death certificate as flu. It excludes any death that could be attributed to another underlying case, such as cancer etc. If we applied the same to Covid I wonder what the numbers would be?

This is an interesting chart
Sep 2, 2021, 8:54 AM
|
|
Also from the CDC. Excess deaths. Period, regardless of cause. Just weekly people who die, period.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htmFigures present excess deaths associated with COVID-19 at the national and state levels.
Now that little blip on the chart for 2018, happens to represent the deadliest year for influenza in the past 2+ decades in the US. So forget covid. Forget flu. A lot more people are dying than normal for some crazy reason. Just so happens to follow the epi curve for covid cases, but that's probably just coincidence.

The big deal is made from the amount of deaths that have been attributed to COVID 19. We could put our head in the sand and say oh they are inflating the Covid deaths to secure funding or whatever other benefit they may receive. Or we could just look at the death total year by year and decide for ourselves if there was an outlier and forget about what the media says from any side. So when we do that the numbers look like this for the last four years.
2017 - 2,813,503 2018 - 2,839,205 2019 - 2,854,838 2020 - 3,358,814
Now I’m no mathematician but 2020 seems to look a bit different. COVID sucks the way our lives have been affected sucks. I don’t think we should shut down and I don’t think we should limit the number of people who can attend a football game. Because we do have to have quality of life and locked in a house isn’t it. I was in the no mask camp for a long time especially after I got vaccinated because I hated wearing them. But if there is a small chance that wearing my mask will keep that number from going that high again is it too much for me to show a little compassion for my fellow man and wear a mask that I hate when I’m in public? And if you are wondering where I stand politically it would never be with a Democrat and rarely a republican. I’m a man that likes to think for myself. It’s rare but worth it.

If you don't get it by now, then quite simply the answer is that you're exercising willful ignorance. And you're part of the problem.

A good friend of mine from high school passed away on Tues..

from COVID.
His spouse passed away the following day. It's unbelievably sad and tragic.
I'm not a medical professional and I certainly don't have all the answers. I also firmly believe that it's your body, so ultimately, it's your choice.
That said, I do know the facts support that nearly all (99%) of COVID-19 deaths in the US now are in people who weren’t vaccinated, a staggering demonstration of how effective the shots have been and an indication that deaths per day could be practically zero if everyone eligible got the vaccine.
Folks...do yourselves and your family a favor and get vaccinated. Your life may depend on it. The benefits far out-weight the risks.

when you consider what we know covid does versus what the vaccine does it seems obvious. We took the shot as soon as we could and we will go for booster at first chance.

Here is some data from King County in the last 30 days. The only reason I use King County is because they actually report the data in a format that makes sense even though they do not calculate "more likely" chances correctly. That piece of data has been manipulated to support their agenda, but their raw numbers don't have an agenda.
In the last 30 days
31% of positive cases were fully vaccinated people. 13% of hospitalized people were fully vaccinated. 28% of covid deaths were fully vaccinated.
Now King County has a vaccination rate of about 70% so that should be taken into consideration.

You are incorrect. Each year, approximately 60,000 people die of the flu in the US. COVID killed 600,000 last year.

COVID-19 is something like 10 times more likely to kill you than the flu. With the new Delta variant it's also much more transmissible.
