Could this be the reason for increase in injuries?

Oct 4, 2021, 9:07 PM

We are asking our best lineup to stay out there virtually all game because every game is close. Normally our 2’s and 3’s would be getting many reps by second half. That hasn’t been the case this season.

We have a lot of freshman (and defense) hurt. Increased fatigue of guys who are probably already doing more than they’ve ever done and doing it at a much more difficult level than high school can cause that.

The mantra of “we too deep” has merit, but this year is showing how lack of efficiency in certain areas puts major strain on some of our prized recruits.

My hope is we right the ship so we can continue to recruit at a high level and allow young players to develop.

I think this is a valid point. Good to remember this when people complain about the number of players Dabo uses. No question that cut down on injuries. The inability to get a lead allowing 2’a and 3’s to play has definitely contributed to the reason for them this year. Good post.

Most starters play nearly the entire game at other schools. The only time 2nd string Bama players come in is when the score is 75-3.

Taylor only played two plays Saturday. Don't think fatigue

played a part give how few plays he's been in so far this year.

I agree with that, but he’s a twitchy 168 lb freshman a running a jet sweep from a position he never played in HS.

QB, WR, punt returner. He’s been asked to do a lot if you think about it. The plan was for him to come in as QB this year and transition to WR in a year or two.

For me personally, it took several days of contact at practice to get used to it and prepared for the season. I am in alignment with the coaches that did not agree with the NCAA reducing contact at practice. This doesn't mean go pound each other 2 hours a day, but not enough contact to get your body ready for game can be detrimental. Getting in "hitting" condition playing games may not end well.

I am not sure what hitting condition is,

I am not a coach. But seems that a lot of the serious injuries are accidents, like dudes getting tangled up and falling on another person's knee awkwardly.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to stop all practice so the players can focus on NIL and just start the season the week before Labor Day. When a team gets below 2 deep at each position, they shut it down. In the end, the teams with the most standing, play it out to see who wins it all.

Muscle and soft tissue injuries occur from sudden trauma because of falls, twists and blow to the body.

Knee and joint injuries can be caused by a list of things but the one thing physiologists do agree on is that going from lower use to higher use without increasing training intensity, injury is more likely.

I thought Shipley's ACL was fine and it was a shin issue?

Opps, missed that. It's not and ACL, it's a tibial plateau fracture

I think you have a valid point.

So far 3 out of 4 games have come down to the last drive. Not just do close games wear on your body because of playing time but it messes with you emotionally with the ups and downs of close games.

Played team sports my entire life, one thing every team has had in common that once you start losing, players start dropping like flies for injuries ,they lose focus and get hurt, and minor injuries become big injuries in their mind.

Will Taylor injury was non-contact. Just plant your foot/leg a certain way while making a cut then ACL injury. Many of those happen without contact.
