Coots... we get it. You've beat us 5 in a row..

I'll give credit where it is due and give you props for that. I'll go one further and say that we deserve the heckling for that for losing 5 in a row. But that's not the point here...
You guys act as though you have far surpassed us as a program which is simply not true. It's not like you are FSU and we are UF. You didn't just win a title (of any kind) and we aren't sitting at a 4 win season.
In fact, in the past 5 years that you have beaten us, we have achieved everything BUT the national title. We've won our division, conference and even a BCS bowl and we are recruiting as well as anyone not named Alabama.
The last 3 years you guys have won 11 games, we won 10, 11 and 11. I'd hardly call that being way behind. So again, let me be clear, yes head to head games you guys have clearly dominated the last 5 years but that is the only thing you can point to. Everything else we have done has been right in step or better in terms of overall achievements.

$CU fans would rather beat Clemson than win a Championship which just further demonstrates their obsession with Clemson.

Both of our programs are playing better football than they ever have in there history. Sure you have a National Championship with Danny Ford but he never had a consecutive winning seasons like you have had with Dabo. We all know that the SEC is the toughest conference to win and yes the West is without a doubt better than the East. We have had our chances and I make no excuses for the Tenn and Auburn losses the past 2 years since those 2 games cost us the East and a shot at the title the last 2 years.
I do give Clemson credit for going after tough out of conference opponents, these games are scheduled years in advance so it was just tough luck catching Auburn in a couple of down years. And the Ohio St win is definitely a great one as well and worth bragging about.
But, having bragging rights the last 5 years has been sweet and I like every Gamecock have enjoyed every minute and will enjoy it until we meet again in November. Then whoever comes out on top gets bragging rights for a year. I will make you one promise, IF you beat us in November I will come here and take whatever you want to give.

Good post. Someone posted a thread from Gamecock fans a couple day's ago, and I wasted my time reading it. I did so knowing that I could have written it myself - that is, they regurgitate the same old rhetoric over and over and over again.
And yes, to your post, we constantly get the "our program has surpassed Clemson, and we are looking at you in the rear view mirror" BS.
The rhetoric is so hopelessly repetitive that I feel like all their fans do anymore is "cut and paste."
But what is going on with the streak right now has happened before, and likely more than once.
One time that comes to mind for me was an up and coming young coach in the early nineties that recruited very well, won at a very high level, achieved national rankings at a consistent rate and was very competitive in AND out of his own conference...with one exception.
BOTTOM LINE: He was an overall winner, but his program could not beat their chief rival. Like Spurrier and USC today, it was a program coached by a seasoned veteran highly successful coach.
He went 1-4-1 in his first 6 games against the veteran. Had they played overtimes in those days, I'm convinced the record would have been 1-5.
1-5 is very familiar to all of us when talking about Swinney vs. Spurrier.
In the early nineties, however, the 1-4-1 belonged to none other than Steve Spurrier vs Bobby Bowden.
For those not familiar with those years, FL led FL ST 31-3 beginning the 4th quarter of the regular season game. FL ST won the 4th quarter 28-0 to gain the tie. Both were highly nationally ranked going into the game.
The pollsters decided that this rivalry left unfinished business on the field and matched them up in a bowl game. FL ST kept their regular season 4th quarter momentum in the bowl game and won.
So there you have it in the first 6 games: Spurrier vs Bowden, 1-4-1; Swinney vs. Spurrier, 1-5.
These two coaches, Swinney and Spurrier, have paralleled each other in their career beginnings.
If you're a Gamecock fan reading this, YES, I am favorably comparing the early careers of the two coaches. So don't go back to your boards and write more rhetoric about your perceived insanity via a Clemson fan about "using Spurrier and Swinney" in the same sentence. I've already seen that BS before, too.

Spurrier already had years of HC experience before he went to Florida. Dabo had none before he took the job at Clemson.

Very good point. i knew that, but I felt my post was too long as it was and quit writing. I sometimes wonder if Spurrier has some empathy for Dabo knowing full well he had the same problem growing up.

You have to give 'em that after 5 straight and most people throughout the country think they'll be better this year.

it's mostly match ups
you will find across the country staffs struggle against specific staffs, team makeups, etc...year after year until there is staff shake up
they happen to have had a team built very well to stop us and the coaching has a been a shade better
i think the teams are on the level competitively at the moment...looking at body of work
