Coots & Tigers - 1st 2 games lead to some concern...
Sep 8, 2012, 11:16 PM
|
|
Clemson: 1. I thought we were looking at a decent Auburn team, that Clemson beat by only 1 touchdown (never mind the Clemson offensive blunders). However, that same Auburn team looked absolutely pathetic against MSU in the 2nd half. 2. Clemson defense gives up some "overchunk" plays that are just the result of poor technique and just plain out of position against what appeared to be a poorly coached MAC team. Great win, but it certainly didn't look like some OU wins at 60-0, or whatever.
Coots: 1. We all thought that Vandy was just a bad SEC team that the Coots had a hard time beating, but Vandy is holding Northwestern on foreign turf. 2. The coots demolish an East Carolina team that busted up App State with a QB that should have been running for his life.
What am I missing in this assessment?
Right now, I hope Dabo is turning up the heat on BV. If that Coot offense comes into Death Valley in November and runs roughshod over the Clemson defense for a 4th year in a row, BV will finally get a Dixie welcome that he wasn't expecting.

His own players?
Sorry, that only goes for head coaches, not coordinators. I'm not giving him sh*t, I'm just saying that coordinators don't get to play that card.

Maybe they aren't worried about stopping Clemson's...

...offense, if they just decide to skin the Tiger's defense.
I keep wanting to believe that there is nothing to the Coots offense except Lattimore, but these first two Coot games are like the last 5 from the end of last season for them. I kept expecting them to lay the eggs that they genetically do, but they kept winning.
I want to see the cluckers get a good rogering from one of those powerhouse SEC teams we are always reminded of.

Think our Offense is Awesome, but agree. Right now, Coot D has a better chance of slowing down our O than Our D has of slowing down theirs.

one of the worst defenses in college football. Dude you really are a coot if you believe the coot offense is good. Oh by the way the coot offense was terrible last season, they won because of their defense and easy schedule.

There are concerns on D...anyone that thought our D was going to go straight from awful to lights out is delusional.

you must have missed all those dropped passes we had vs AU. Go back and watch it again. We dropped enough passes to beat AU 20-25 points. Easily. Plus - our 'best' player didn't travel to that game. Uh - what are you missing?
Don't be too upset with today's game on D. The O works in tandem with the D, and if the O shuts down, it makes it harder on the D. We played 2nd & 3rd & 4th string guys the entire 2nd half on O. That allows for a lot of failed opportunities, and provides much better field position for the opponent. Just relax. Chickens are skeeered.

Another intelligent T'Net response.
I hope no players or coaches borrow your orange-colored glasses that have led to Clemson getting waxed by chickens three years in a row!

A few points for you to consider
Sep 8, 2012, 11:39 PM

We played Auburn the first game of the season on a neutral field. We had a wet behind the ears OL/DL and our best player was out of the game. We had several huge plays called back due to mishaps on the OL (not surprising) as well as drops. Auburn was intentionally going for Boyd's helmet which kept him out of a crucial 4th and goal. We also didn't have Sammy Watkins.
SC played very very poorly against Vandy, who is not a good team. They throttled ECU but in all honesty ECU sucks. Remember they scored 50+ against UK last year but struggled to break 21 in most of the rest of their games. Their D is better then ours but our D is a work in progress.

The only time to be concerned with what the coots are doing is when they buckle the chin straps and kick it off in Death Valley on Nov. 24th. You worry about them game by game and you'll be a basket case by the time that date arrives. Alot can happen and alot can change between now and then! I hope they lose every game they play, but I'd rather watch Clemson and pull for the Tigers to get better each week!!

That defense of the chickens gave up more yardage today than our defense gave up.

Correct about Auburn not being a good team, but also don't think Vandy is all that great. Think we just played a bad game. You guys would thump auburn at home and we would thump Vandy at home.

I think it is impossible to compare opponents and compare weeks to weeks, at least this early in the season. Some teams just match up differently than others. Miss St beat AU worse than ya'll did. That probably means absolutley nothing. May be some different macthups. Maybe AU was deflated from having already lost. Any number of things could have possibly played into the results. The last assumption I would make is that Miss ST is better than Clemson. There just isn't alot we can know yet from comparing opponents. It was ridiculous how everyone was doing it last week.
As for the teams I think we should both still be very concerned but we also are both pretty good teams. Our runblocking sucks right now and we can't afford that to continue. Connor still needs to show he can pass the ball because we need him to be our starter. On y'alls side the back 7 defensiely still looks very unspectacular. Not sold on your o-line against really good pass rushes yet. We both still have alot to work on.

that a coot can sometimes make more sense than our high "pulse" Tnetters. Good points are made here.
I am just glad that USuC is many games away for us defensively, and wish we had at least 1 more game after Furman before FSU, but that isn't how it works. Hopefully the offense can outscore FSU. It will be a high scoring game in my opinion.
