For a moment, I thought you were referring to a chicken from cola, and I was uninterested in offering assistance. Since it’s really a coot, maybe there is a specialist with DNR or a university with veterinary professors who could help.

Whatever you do, don't let the dog near it.
If they fight 10 times, the dog will win 9 but then the coot will never ever shut up about the 1 time it beat the dog and you will have to hear coot noises 24/7.
Inserting a live tiger into the mix should take care of your coot problem.
