Congaree tournament

Jun 12, 2021, 12:50 PM

The weather could be a problem this afternoon, but Bryson Nimmer has finished with a nice 67 moving him up to t22. JByrd is on the course and playing well, and Doc tees off at 1:00. Teeing off at 1:10 is the South African player I mentioned last year, Wilco Nienaber. He is longer off the tee than DeChambeau, and it isn’t particularly close. On the European Tour last year he hit a drive 439 yards. He will be fun to watch, weather permitting.

Marshall ..... "wilco" means "over and out" in Marine radio language. Maybe he is trying to send a message to his opponents!

So far, he’s off to a shaky start with the driver, but hopefully he will get it under control. He played well the first two rounds and hit most the fairways.

Doc is throwing DARTS!!!

Jun 12, 2021, 2:11 PM

Dammmmit Man . . . He’s missed a 6’ birdie putt on #3 and a 7’ eagle putt on #4 . . . Yeah, he’s still -2 through 4 holes and I should be ecstatic . . . I know . . . I know

Keep throwing DARTS Doc!!!!!!!

Did you notice Poulter?

Jun 12, 2021, 2:23 PM

He’s broken out his Clemson colors, orange shirt and blue and orange plaid pants. Looking sharp.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He has always been a fashionista . . .

Jun 12, 2021, 3:35 PM

looking rather dapper in his “Gator” colors . . . Which is where his son, Luke, committed to play his college golf just 8 days ago . . .

Nothing “Tiger-esque” about Orange and Blue . . . to me anyway . . . especially knowing where Luke is going.

Ian is a “clothes horse” and always will be.

Plaid is not my style, but if I could find slacks that look as good as the ones he wears I might change my mind. And, the slacks he is wearing today are darker than royal blue, and his shirt is close to being burnt orange. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt and am calling them Clemson colors.

Ian used to have his own line of clothing, the company was called IJP Design but it shut down back in 2017...https://www.golfdigest.com/story/ian-poulter-is-shutting-down-his-clothing-line

Yes, I thought he had abandoned that venture. I suspect Ian brings in a tailor each year and chooses swaths to be made into slacks. That’s what Steve Ellington used to do when he was the best dressed player on tour.

and played a few holes the next day. Great guy. Beautiful swing. woner how he ever hits one off line. I think injuries, allergies, and some sinus problems ampered his career

While we're talking friendly golf... Luke was the 133 rated player for this class. So I think Skeeta56 was right last night, we probably didn't recruit him. We do have the #24 rated player from the 21 class coming in. Although it's hard (for me anyway) to find golf class rankings. I do know we were NOT in the top 10 in 2021. AZ st was 1, Duke was 2nd and I think Tennessee was 3rd. UNC was in there as well as USC but not sure which USC.

Anyway, does anyone know where to find this info. What would it take for Coach Byrd to reel in some top 10 classes. Tia

Golf week used to carry those rankings, but that was back in the day when it was still a magazine. I don’t know if they still have it on their website.

I've looked but can't find anything. If I have to pay, I will. Now that I'm retired, I'd like to follow everything Clemson a lot closer. I give to Golf Paw but wish it was another way to help.

Not that I'm complaining but sure would like to see Clemson compete year in and year out with ok st. Know what I mean?

Well darn. Doc missed a good chance on 12 - lost drive in right rough. Then pulled his driver into the water on 13... Still had a chance to make an up and down for bogey but double instead. -6. Still, clean card coming in with 2 birdies at -8 would put him in good shape imo.

Re: Congaree tournament

Doc went for it again on 15 and like yesterday, drove left and failed to make birdie. Darn fella just made eagle... Dang why couldn't that be Doc. Still, with all that, make one more and get in the house -7 gives us a good chance to throw darts tomorrow.

Don't ever want to pull for any golfer to mess up, it wouldn't hurt my feelings either if the leaders back up a couple strokes.

Ok, I'll shut up and quit posting. Billy is -10 thru 15. 8 shots back but only good for t35. -3 on the day so far. Got to go low Billy.

Arrrggghhh . . .

Jun 12, 2021, 5:20 PM

Just missed a 9’ putt for birdie on #17 . . . One more chance to edge a bit closer

The lone drive into the water on 13 is the only major mistake of the day . . . he’ll need the flat stick to pull his weight tomorrow!!!

Doc has a 15’ 10” putt for birdie on #18 . . . Good thoughts Doc!!!

Sorry folks . . . another Par . . . Ended the day @ -1 and sits @ -6 for the Tournament and currently tied for 9th Place
and 7 shots behind the Leader

Solid day tomorrow and the paycheck will be nice!!!

Thanks Skeeta56 for closing it out much better than I. You're right, was his only mistake. But my gosh he had some chances. Not taking advantage of 15 where most at least cardied a birdie and then the other 10 foot or better birdie putts... What could have been. Still a good round, good payday and you never know if the leader slips and Doc can fire a 66, finish -11...

Thanks again.
