Conference expansion is meant to strengthen a conference

Nov 28, 2012, 7:34 AM

right?

If so, why is the ACC looking at Uconn and UL?

I'm not up on all the conference realignment/expansion stuff so correct me if I'm wrong, but these two schools are no better than Maryland IMO.

I would say that UL is better than Maryland. I think their ambitions are higher than Maryland.

Maybe not, but who is left?

Penn State? They are soon liable to be slammed by government sanctions as well as NCAA sanctions. We passed on WVU. Who is left?

I am very anti expansion. Look at the Big East in a few years. They will range from coast to coast. Travel will be impossible for almost every fan. NO team will be in N.Y. or N.J., the heart of the conference. I something happens involving the t.v. networks and the money dries up, college sports will be screwed ... big time.

In which case there would be another round of realignment.

But for now, TV rules, and markets are the key.

We raid the Big East. It's all about money. We are in a mid

Because for the ACC expansion is not about survival, not strength.

UConn does not add strength but UL does.

Football they have a fairly new stadium that seats 60k with room for expansion.

Basketball they just moved into a brand new state of the art facility that seats 22k. I went ot a game there last year it is unbelievable.

Baseball they do fairly well in.

Soccer their program is currently doing better than ours.

The rest I really dont give a #### about.

I would say a UL for Maryland trade is a good one for the ACC.

UConn has a pretty strong following

Nov 28, 2012, 9:04 AM

because of basketball. Not as sure about football. But I don't know what the numbers are for the key financial pieces like TV markets, etc.
