Conference dominoes gonna fall

Jul 22, 2021, 5:05 PM

ND will join the ACC
Who else will the ACC hunt? UCF, WVU?

Ok St, Iowa St, WVU to B1G? Pretty cool

TCU, Boise, Baylor to PAC 12? Puke

12 team playoff, 4 power conferences within a few years.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other and Clemson will keep winning ?? s

Historically, the BIG has only accepted AAU universities. None of the three you mentioned meet that criteria.

Iowa St is, and also Kansas. Yikes

You’re right, I checked the list but overlooked Iowa State.

I guess Baylor, TxTech, TCU and Ok State would go to pac 12***

WVU brings nothing to the table

Jul 22, 2021, 7:07 PM

No tv market. The best the ACC can hope for is ND and CF. CF is a big school in the middle of Fl. ACC then has FL from stem to sternum

Penn State

Jul 22, 2021, 7:26 PM

ACC should try to lure the Penn State away from the Big Ten. ACC needs a major player. UCF is not that.

Re: Penn State

Jul 22, 2021, 7:29 PM

UCF might help recruiting for the ACC in Florida with 3 ACC schools, UCF could grow & be a gold mine for the ACC

Re: Penn State

Jul 22, 2021, 9:30 PM

We are already recruiting well in Florida. What we need is better competition. We need other schools who draw more than 60,000 fans to their home games. Penn State draws 100,000+. What does UCF draw? 45,000? Come on. UCF is not even a power five team and for a reason. The ACC has a perception of being a weak conference. And you think bringing in UCF will change that?

Unless the ACC can offer comparable television dollars as the B1G (which will never happen), Penn State won't even consider moving.

Agree 100% about West Virginia.

Jul 22, 2021, 10:01 PM [ in reply to WVU brings nothing to the table ]

I don’t think UCF brings anything to the table either.

I’d call Florida and see if they are open to leaving the SEC. ACC can offer natural rivals in FSU and Miami, and also a better basketball conference than the SEC offers.

No way will any SEC school leave. And, Florida would be at the top of "No way in hell do we leave" list.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think FSU would support it anyway...

Jul 23, 2021, 8:25 AM

just like Florida would likely oppose the addition of either FSU or Miami to the SEC.

My prediction

Jul 22, 2021, 9:57 PM

If UT & OU somehow move to the SEC:

Little 12 will dissolve into sand (the state of Texas might also go into civil war over this but that's something only us Texans would care about)

Pac 12 will enter the ICU with a ~50% chance of survival. They should tell the states of Texas and Oklahoma they would also accept OK State and (one of) Baylor or Texas Tech.

ACC may be the only conference besides the SEC to benefit because they will get ND plus someone else (unless the B1G steals 1 or 2 ACC teams away)

B1G will have to swallow their pride and openly concede they are #2 in athletics behind the SEC. I can tell you now the B1G would roll their eyes at OK State, WVU, Kansas, etc. Iowa State is a maybe. IMO, the B1G would raid the ACC and maybe steal Louisville

What really matters, though, is Clemson football. IMO, if it weren't for NIL, realignment would have no negative effect on us. But since NIL is here, oh brother.

The compounding effect of NIL + major realignment could send college football into the Twilight Zone.

ROTFL at Big Ten raiding the ACC for Louisville.

Laugh all you want, but PSU leaving the B1G for the ACC is a much bigger laugher.

Except for Clemson, the ACC is a sorry conference.

Both...

Somehow, I just don't ever see Notre Dame joining the ACC

Jul 23, 2021, 8:32 AM

as a full member in football. The more likely scenario, if all conferences start expanding again, is that ND joins the Big 10. It would certainly make more sense for them from a geographic and "natural rival" standpoint.

Re: Somehow, I just don't ever see Notre Dame joining the ACC

Jul 23, 2021, 8:40 AM

I could be wrong but I think ND would have to join the ACC if it joined a conference. Part of the contract to be a ACC member in the other sports.

I wish there was a Tennessee team in the league. Bring on Memphis!!!!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Memphis is in the same category with UCF, USF and Cincinnati

Jul 23, 2021, 9:04 AM

They bring nothing to the table.

If the league is going to expand, they need to think big or simply stay at 14/15 members.
