Thanks Mr. Hood for the Clemson NIL Updates

May 16, 2022, 12:02 PM

It looks like Clemson Football is a bit on their heels with 2023/24 recruiting, but it looks like many other programs (possibly including Bama) are in the same boat.

Lots of twists and turns are ahead IMHO. Players accepting then rejecting NIL deals, switching schools and NIL deals, contract issues with NIL providers (who own the kid) superseding kids' deals with the schools, fan haters and booing for NIL players who do not perform, kids entering the portal to switch schools with multiple NIL deals and lawsuits in the balance, IRS non-payment implications, etc. etc.

Each university will have high legal fees which will include the added expenses of NIL Director(s) and multiple attorneys on retainer. At the end of the day, these exorbitant additional costs will force regulation to come. Most likely from conference commissioners who will cautiously reach out to each other to ensure no loss of competitive advantages for their conference but restricts cost pains. This could also be the time the expected break from the NCAA occurs for the big schools with a separation between the "big boys" and smaller less wealthy schools.

Lots ahead. Stay tuned, and thanks to David for keeping us informed ...

I agree with you...

I agree with everything you said. There was not one thing thought through on the NIL or no rules portal before it was allowed. Much like our government problems right now, it will take years to straighten this mess out. This is what happens when emotions control our decisions and not well thought out discussion and common sense. I've always said to my kids and employees to always make small well thought out changes. Those big, abrupt, emotion driven changes will bite you almost every time.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what their decision is. I really hope they just put common sense limitations on the existing law. I think that would be more palatable for the nation to digest.
Small moves...

"common sense"

May 16, 2022, 3:15 PM

"hey you.. 18 year old.. You can't make money playing foosball in the NFL until you are 21.. but you sure can make money in College"

I dunno if that is common sense but it sure seems a bit like hypocrisy.

maybe not. they can send you off to war at 18 but they wont let you buy a beer.. or even rent a car.

Congress put the drinking age law in place back in 1981 or 82. If the states didn't change the drinking age to 21, they were going to withhold highway funds. South Carolina was one of the last states to hold out but eventually gave in. I never agreed with that whole thing, but at least I was old enough to not be affected. Hopefully one day they will go back to 18 for beer, which only makes sense.

There is just not much "common sense" when government is involved.

Its pretty obvious that as soon as a player commits all the other schools that wanted him give him a call in order to outbid the team with the commitment. Welcome to the new and improved college football. I hope all the morons who were in favor of this choke on it.

Not far from the truth. If at all.
Very sad times for college football fans. ??

our recruiting is following the same plan it always does.

1 or 2 really early commitments, a couple after signing day, then nothing until our All-In cook out.
