Why is Bama "unbeatable" and Clemson "most likely to lose???

Oct 26, 2016, 12:23 PM

Defense: Clemson total yards 298/g (8th) scoring d 15.3 pts/g (10th) turnover forced 16 (12th)
Alabama total yards 274/g (4th) scoring d 14.9 pts/g (7th) turnovers forced 16 (12th)

Offense Clemson 474 yds/g (35th) scoring 36.6 (26th) turnovers 16 (114th)
Alabama 498 yds/g (15th) scoring 43.9 (7th) turnovers 12 (70th)

Seems to me that the numbers are very close and Clemson at this point has played a much better schedule.

I wonder if all these talking heads are looking at are highlights and box scores?????

Really? You really don't know?

Oct 26, 2016, 12:30 PM

I'm a proud Clemson alum and don't like the national media's trend to downplay our resume either but c'mon man. Bama has been utterly dominant this season and has proven themselves over the last 8 years. They are sitting on the most talented roster in the nation coached by maybe the greatest college football coach of all time. On the flip side, we've already won squeakers against Troy, Louisville, and NC State. We haven't played up to our ability yet. Unless you're a Clemson fan, it's natural to question whether that will happen because at our current pace, we are bound to slip up if we don't start limiting the turnovers.

Embrace the hate, it's because we have made it.

You know.... Troy is 47th in total defense 19.9 pts a game, 29th in total offense ands avg 37 pts a game, 9th in TO margin

6-1 on the year so is that so bad?

Come on, if we're truly a national championship

Oct 26, 2016, 12:47 PM

caliber team, then we can't be trying to justify a close win at home over Troy. We need to win by multiple scores in Tally then blow the doors off of teams the rest of the way. If our offense starts taking care of the ball I think we'll do just that.

I think people are saying that because Bama looks unbeatable and Clemson looks like it could easily lose.

We don't "need to win by multiple scores in Tally then blow the doors off of teams the rest of the way".
We can the rest of the games exactly the same way we won the NC St game and guess what? We'll be sliding the national championship rings on our fingers after the last one.

This.

Exactly this.

Ole Maam had Alashama down by 3 scores

Oct 26, 2016, 12:33 PM

and went all to *#%^. They are a great team, but our Tigers are great as well. The media is having a field day with our "struggle" this year with Troy, NCSU and are running with it. Unfortunately that is the perceived view of media and therefore we aren't talked about in the same light as them. It's ok, we all know the truth here and will continue to hear those QUACKS keep quacking right to the CFP, no worries as Tigers will be there lol ??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because Bama has looked really, really good

Oct 26, 2016, 12:45 PM

and we've barely gotten by against some average teams. If we want look unbeatable, then we need to start dominating games, and we need to leave no doubt in Tally this weekend.

numbers so close?

I'm not saying Bama isn't dominant, I'm saying we are right there with them.

Yet we are treated as if a loss is eminent

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think the numbers are as close as you think

Oct 26, 2016, 12:55 PM

After quickly reading the rankings you listed they beat us in every statistical category.

not by much and they haven't played their 2 toughest games yet

So if we lose points for a close one against a conference foe why don't they lose points for a close on against a 3-4 Ole Miss team that has wins over Wofford, Memphis, and a 4-3 Georgia team that just lost to Vandy

It is really much closer than people want to admit.

1/2 a point on d and 24 yards

7 points on O and 24 yards

Re: I don't think the numbers are as close as you think

Oct 26, 2016, 1:18 PM

Yep, their two most legit games are yet to be played.

We share the common foe in AU.

U of L will be a better win than whatever happens with Bama and LSU.

FSU and aTm are the third matchups to note.

Followed by Pitt or if you want Troy and Tennessee. Tennessee was way overrated and played Bama with a ton of injuries. I will point to App St versus Tennessee to back my statement up (Pitt or Troy). We will see in two weeks when Troy plays App St.

As far as championship games, I'm not sure how UNC/VT fairs against the SEC LEast. I do believe, however, that UNC is better than their week 1 loss to UGA.

"1/2 a point on d and 24 yards

While i do agree that the teams are closer than many are willing to acknowledge, 7.5 points is a big gap. Much of that can be attributed to their defense and S&T being on an absurd scoring streak though. I still can't imagine that is sustainable. Obviously you don't score that many non-offensive TDs without being really good and doing some things right, but there also has to be a lot of luck involved. Every fumble they recover seems to bounce right to somebody that can run it back for a TD. All of their INTs are in a perfect place to get returned for 6. It's really uncanny. At some point it has to stop, right?

Re: This probably isn't helping your argument

Oct 26, 2016, 1:53 PM

excellent point. I shoudl have qualified the 7 point margin with the comments you made about the D/ST and how unsustainable that is especially as they get into the meat of their schedule.

Re: This probably isn't helping your argument

Alabama has 12 non offensive TDs thus far. That is more than the gap between us and Alabama in scoring.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Here are some better stats with opponent adjustments:

Oct 26, 2016, 12:56 PM

FEI
Bama Offense - 19
Clemson Offense - 22
Bama Defense - 1
Clemson Defense - 4
Bama Overall - 1
Clemson Overall - 2

S&P+
Bama Offense - 10
Clemson Offense - 24
Bama Defense - 4
Clemson Defense - 2
Bama Overall - 3
Clemson Overall - 4

The biggest difference between the two metrics is that FEI evaluates drives while S&P+ looks at individual plays. Either way, both teams are pretty close. There is a bit of a gap between us and Bama, but nothing we can't close by getting closer to our offensive ceiling.

It's the eye test coupled with the absolute fact that...

Oct 26, 2016, 1:57 PM

those same idiots spent nine months proving that Clemson would blow everybody off the path to the NC game again this season. Now we have the opportunity to expose their ignorance about football for the second time in the same year.

They spin the wheel of metrics until they find a results which supports their ignorant spin doctoring.

Re: When trying to make a point with statistics

Oct 26, 2016, 2:47 PM

If the point was Clemson is better than Bama than you'd have a point but that was not the point.

Clemson is on upset watch every week and Bama is supposedly invincable but the stats are very close and similar and the strength of the Clemson schedule thus far has been better

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Louisville was close to a first down ??

Oct 26, 2016, 2:57 PM

We need some convincing wins to get the praise that Bama deserves and so far I think we deserve to be on upset alert. I am silently preparing myself for the possibility

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably because Bama has looked much better than we have.*****
