Receiver Room

Nov 28, 2022, 12:46 PM

We have to completely revamp our wide receiver room. The players we currently have besides Agent 0 (Williams) are not capable of producing on the field. We have seen it for 2 years now. No one besides Williams has done anything to impress me. They aren’t tough, don’t block on the edge, don’t fight for the ball and don’t get YAC. They are ghosts out there. I could do the exact same job as some of them did this past weekend! NOTHING!

Hit the portal Dabo or recruit the heck out of some 5 stars. We have to have more talent in that position or we will suffer on offense for a while.

There’s not a five star receiver in this world coming to play with DJ at QB unless someone is going to give them millions

LOL at Dabo using the portal.***

If you go back and break down the games or go in person the receivers aren’t the problem. DW4/TLAW would be undefeated and we’d have at least one 1000yd receiver

You may be right but I think what I said is still true. DJ does not help himself and is part of the problem as well.

Not disagreeing we don’t need more help but it’s mind blowing when you see how many times AW is open and Beaux as well. On DJs first sack he held the ball to long with Beaux having his guy beat over the middle with no safety over the top you have to get the ball out in that situation. Also I firmly believe the drop problem is there because the receivers are shocked when the ball hits their hands it’s like they have zero confidence pass plays are going to work

Nov 28, 2022, 12:57 PM [ in reply to Re: Receiver Room ]

The receivers ARE a significant part of the problem. It's a multi-headed beast for sure. Offensive Coordinator, QB play, WRs, OL blocking, DL pressure, Defensive Backs performance and punter. Don't think fixing only one of these would show a significant improvement in the level of play. Potter seems to be immune. Having said all of that, 10-2 is something most college programs would be content with...

OL pass blocking has been the best in years, DW4 and Trevor never had the time DJ has he holds the ball way to long

I mean seriously how long do y’all expect them to hold a D1 DL??? Now they do need help run blocking but the next class coming in is the best OL class we’ve had as far as I can remember

Collins is a good player. He was on pace for a big game if he doesn’t get hurt. Had a decent freshman year. Him and Williams and add one more.

Especially if DJ moves out of the pocket on that first sack Collins had his man beat for a TD but DJ took the sack

He reminds me of Powell a little from 3 years ago. I think he can have a huge season next year. Barring quarterback play.

Beauxs going to be a good one he’s another one I really hope doesn’t transfer, I talk to his parents quite a bit through messages and really don’t get the feeling he’s going anywhere

Also if I was a coach, which I’m not I would reach out to see if Luther burden had any interest in leaving his home state. If there was any interest I would give him whatever he wanted. But that’s probably tampering and I know Dabo wouldn’t do that. But just a pipe dream. Instant upgrade.

Grisham is over his head in developing these guys. They have really digressed. With that said, you can't fix this with recruiting until a certified slinger with the ball is behind center. I agree, 5 stars are not coming to Clemson until we have a passing QB in place. WRU and Clemson are no longer synonymous.

I was looking into Luther burden a 5 star freshman at Missouri. He announced today that he is staying at Missouri. But Missouri’s best receiver this year a sophomore name Dominic Lovett went into the portal. The way Ohio state recruits that area it might would be hard, but drive the brinks truck down lol.

Re: Receiver Room

I truly believe WR production vastly improves with anyone other than DJ throwing to them. Justin Ross, with TLaw, looked like the next 1rd WR from WRU. Injury and then coming back to play with a certain QB, while also switching to the slot=undrafted free agent.

Last year, I believe we all questioned J. Ross' move to the slot; now, I am really thinking the coaches did this specifically to get Ross more opportunities. AWilliams (slot) has been the ONLY WR to produce really this year.

DJ cannot hit the outside WR with any consistency. If J. Ross played outside last year after injury, his chances as an undrafted FA probably really diminish.

Go Tigers!!!
